Anyone has any interesting stories about DMV or MVA?

Well I went to register the 230TE the other day. The lady I got (clueless) kept on telling me the VIN is not correct and does not come up. I kept on telling her this is a Euro car and will not come up. Then she came up with a suggestion. She said it comes up if entered as WOB123XXXXXX
At this point I lost my temper. I told her Lady do you know what the second digit is? She said country of origin. I told her the last time I checked Onion was'nt a country. This car was made is Germany and should be D. Then she gets pissed off and wants to send me to Maryland to fix the title(supposedly) I had to be nice again. She went and talked to some people and guess what now it says WDB123XXXXXXX. Ofcourse it still says 4 door sedan on the title but beggars can't be choosers.

Years ago in Texas my spouse worked for CASA (Child Advocate). About 2001 CASA had there own specialty plate available, A Blue Star on the left 1/3 and room for 4 digits. (similar in design to the State of Arts plate with White Star) I was charged with going to the DMV and ordering this plate early so she could get a low digit. The plate and the DMV person I had were both very new She couldn't find the plate available and after consulting with a supervisor they both approached me with a demand of proof of employment to order such a plate. I had been supplied with such and kindly handed it to them. They mumbled around and finally collected my $XX and told me it would be a few weeks.

The plates arrived and OH called to tell me I ordered the wrong plates that they were not CASA tags. They were something else with a GOLD STAR At that time the gold star was for Texas Supreme Court (currently been changed to Gold Star Families). I did convince her that this was a much better plate to have and she agreed and we kept that tag for many years until moving from Texas. It's like that tag said "Don't even think about it".

My dad gave me the benz right before he died.
A few weeks later I went to NYC DMV to get it titled and registered. Since he and I had the same name I'd signed over the PA title to myself, not noticing it needed to be notarized.
The clerk I ended up with told me to go get it notarized. I get a friend who knew my dad had died to seal it and go back to DMV- the clerk had given me a pass so I could skip the line and go right to him.
I give over all the paperwork I had, and he was kinda stumped because of the PA title, NJ Notary, no bill of sale....I'm trying to explain the whole thing to him, and he's just shaking his head back and forth, telling me its not gonna fly without an estate executors letter, death certificate, etc, etc.

Then he saw the Arlington National Cemetery pass mixed in with all the paperwork, muttered "A Vet, huh?", and bingo within seconds had all the forms clocked in and my new title and registration issued. Thats when I noticed the MIA/POW flag the guy had at his work station....

My CT title lists my car as a 380SD. Maybe I should put this extremely rare car on Ebay....

Reminds me of my very first DMV hassle. In 1975, I discovered that the title and registration on my '61 Ponton 180 had an extra number and it took three trips to two different VA DMVs before I found someone that knew the right procedure to correct it.
The lady at the first DMV kept running the wrong VIN and insisting I needed to go to New Jersey and track down the previos owner to fix it.
The fact that she was attempting to trace the car using an incorrect VIN just didn't register in her one-track mind.
In frustration, I went to a second DMV, where a supervisor inspected the VIN plate on my car, filled out a correction-form and issued a new title in short-order.

Of course this pales in comparison to my efforts to register my '84 Euro 300TD two years ago. The car had previous;ly been registered in Maryland and Washington DC, with the letters WDB missing from the VIN. Of course when I went to register in Virginia, the Maryland title was rejected because the VA DMV database requires vehicles built since 1980 to have a minimum of 17 characters in the VIN. It took two weeks, 15 phone calls, three trips to Virginia DMV, and two trips to Maryland MVA, before someone provided the correct procedure - almost identical to what I had to do back in 1975.
The seller had to bring this car to MVA, have a Maryland state trooper inspect the VIN, and fill out a correction-form so MVA could issue a corrected title.
One curious detail emerged from this latest fiasco. According to one MVA clerk, when the car entered Maryland from DC, the original Maryland inspection had recorded the complete VIN, but then someoe had crossed out the first three letters to conform to the incomplete VIN on the DC title!
