Angry $ 7-a-gallon Gas????

This is scary.....

Read HERE

Just a quick quote:
"The answer can be found in Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel's now-famous words, "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste -- and what I mean by that is it's an opportunity to do things that you think you could not do before."

The NY Post, seriously?

$7 is a little high, but $5 would probably work.

I'm ok with gas costing 7$ a gallon.

However diesel should cost $2 a gallon

Seriously though the biggest issue with a huge tax on fuel is where the money is going. I doubt heavily that it will be spent on investments towards more energy efficient anything. It will be funneled to the same goons that are friends with our leaders on both sides of the isle.

I would prefer to see higher prices without it going to taxes. Maybe enough environmental requirements and limits on imports would drive up prices without direct taxes.

Americans have a god-given right to cheap fuel regardless of the long term consequences because god made it like that. Obama will raise gas prices (presidents can raise gas prices, right?) because he's a godless communist and doesn't like the small people.

Hey, if it goes directly to green / fuel efficiency R&D and puts more jobs on the market...I wouldn't mind too terribly much.

I might cringe when I go to the gas station...

The rest of his quote tells how he sees this as a chance to do things quickly instead of waiting years to solve problems. Problems the country had were years in the making and, when this quote was made, everyone was looking to Obama to undo eight years of Bush rule that had bought these problems on.

If Obama is trying to take over the world he is sure taking his sweet time about it. This quote was made in November of 2008. The price of gasoline was never under consideration at this time, but the greatest Depression the world had ever seen was looking more and more real every day.

At the time no one thought the world's economy could be saved. It was a crisis, and the fact that it was a crisis allowed things to be done that you never thought you could do before.

Please note that the 'things that were done' were done while Bush was still President.

Speaking as someone who spent 30 years in the oil business...

I read this article. It started out strange and then made large jumps in logic. Then it went off on a tangent about how bad cap-and-trade will be because BP had an oil spill.

It finally got so loony I could not tell what point the author was trying to make except for something like 'Obama bad. He is a bad, bad man'.

Then I noticed that it was written by someone from the Heritage Foundation. It still didn't make any sense, but at least now I knew why.

They certainly do; fortunately they don't have much if any input to energy policy.

It's not news - it's using fear to acheive a result. Politics as usual.

Exactly.

I doubt you'll ever see any serious attempt by the government to legislate fuel prices that high. As was stated about the "god-given right" attitude, it would be virtual political suicide - unless it was crafted in such an obtuse way they could readily blame the price increase on someone else.

As far as raising the price and using the increase for other energy sources, instead of being collected as taxes - do you seriously think for one second that the federal and state governments would readily give up one of their primary cash cows? Look at my former state of NC - well in the top ten for the highest fuel taxes in the country, PLUS they were going to add on an additional "road use" tax of 1/4 cent per mile - mainly because when oil hit around $150/barrel, gas prices went thru the roof, and fuel sales took a significant plunge, they had a significant shortfall in revenue.

If we do see $5 or $7 a gallon in the near future, my bet is it will be due to Goldman Sachs and other futures traders pulling another pump and dump scheme as they did 2 years ago. Oil at nearly $150/barrel, at a time when the API and energy department were reporting the highest inventories of oil and distillates on hand in nearly 3 decades, then it drops to nearly $30/barrel, now traded back up to nearly $80/barrel? Going to be a hard sell with a lot of people that it's just due to "supply and demand".
