How do Floridians work on their cars!?

Today I am in southern CT trying to do some floor pan welding. Twice today, it has gone from sunny and 95 degrees, to monsoon conditions in about 5 minutes, causing me to scurry around running stuff inside.

Im used to if its a sunny day, it STAYS a sunny day, and one can lay their tools out on the ground and spread materials and parts all over the driveway without fear of everything getting soaked if you run in for a glass of water. I can usually even run down to the parts store with everything everywhere.

It must be impossible to fully do this in florida, where sudden rain storms happen all the time.

Today was odd in that there were a few odd and rather random rain showers. Generally at this time of the year I won't start working on the car until after 5 or so. At least here we don't usually have to worry about home owner associations

Wait for it....

When the temperature hits over 90 degrees and it's humid as hell, the tools get put away. Unless it's a must do can't go anywhere kinda situation, it's just not worth drowning in a pool of sweat. I'd much rather work in freezing temps than stifling heat.

And once that little "problem" is worked out, you should be able to move back.

We work on them in the early mornings whenever possible or pay some poor sap to endure the heat for us... that being said, I've spend the latter part of 2 days in a junk yard yanking parts etc surrounded by other cars. It sucked... the day before was awesome. got all the back bits disconnected and it started to pour

I agree, usually I would be sipping an iced tea sitting in a kiddie pool full of ice. this was a do or die thing at the moment, and Im done! I welded in a driver side floor pan a couple weeks ago made out of scrap steel, and put together a new outer bolt location for the seat, and I THOUGHT I shimmed it properly, but I actually could not have done a worse job had I been trying.

The seat bolt was far too high, which actually turned out to be quite literally a PITA while driving for more than 20 minutes as the seat was all twisted and pitched forward on that corner. Managed to drop it about 3/4 of an inch through some creative cutting and welding.

Sounds like Texas. You work on cars in the morning, and do "inside things" during the afternoon. Rain is always an option, so you keep that into consideration when starting all-day projects outside.

Just as you were writing this (4PM) I was interrupted by lightning , closed the tool box and ran inside. I don't mess with that stuff- I guess because of many close calls (starting with having lightning pass through the classroom in High School 40 years ago). It's impossible to even touch the tools in the middle of the day.

This happened to me the other day, except that it took fifteen seconds for the rain to appear, and it was accompanied by strong gusts of wind. And I had all the roll up doors of the shop open....... while I was laying the last panel's primer coat.... Yeah.
