That's what I was thinking. If the pressure is too much for the cap then we're back to square one.

Even if it works perfectly though there is still the massive cleanup effort that will take months if not years to complete.

If it blows, it could possibly destroy mankind. We are getting into totally uncharted territory here when it comes to massive methane release.

Actually, 1800 psig isn't unusual. Comercial power plants have systems that operate at similar pressures continuously. The hard part is installing this equipment a mile below the sea.

If the Earth fractures and a huge methane bubble farts into the atmosphere, feel free to compare it. If there is one thing we have learned from this, it is that we are getting into things we simply don't totally understand yet. This ultra-depth, ultra-deep drilling is much like the beginning of the Atomic Age.
