Glen Beck's tv ratings...

Hey! I got your attention with that one, didn't I!

When it comes to cable news and talk shows everybody's ratings are down from the first of the year. Most shows are off by 9%, but Larry King is down 46%. MSNBC shows are down about 12% or so on average, CNN is down about 40% on average. Of course these numbers go up and down, and the numbers normally drop off during the summer and go back up in the fall.

Beck's number have gone from 2.9 million eyeballs per show to 1.39, which is a 52% drop since January, but 1.39 is still very good for a cable show and Beck's numbers will likely go up a bit as the elections get closer.

Oddly enough the lofty minds that figure out the why behind these things blame the switch-over from analog to digital broadcasting.

Sounds funny to me. How can a switch in the broadcast spectrum effect the viewership numbers of a cable show?

Could it be people are just getting tired of all the name calling?

Maybe Becks fans have migrated to his radio show?

Maybe it's because the average TV viewer is about 90 years old.

Seriously, why are we still worrying about TV numbers; the last time I checked the total viewers for all the news networks was only a few million during prime time, that's only a couple of percent of the US population. I don't know anyone under 60 who actually gets their news from TV.

I don't know about the radio ratings. I don't really work in that world enough to understand it.

One thing that is confusing about radio ratings vs. tv is that when numbers are quoted for tv it is for that day. When numbers are quoted for radio it is for the week.

Example: Beck showed 1.39 million viewers on one day last week. Rush ratings show he has 13.5 million ears, but is per week. That would break down to an average of 2.7 per day.

I once heard that radio usage is highest on Friday. Maybe that's why Rush has open lines on that day as open line shows tend to be more entertaining than strict news and commentary.

Craig makes a good point. The age group the advertisers are going after with news is 24-54. As folks get older they tend to have more time to watch tv news, but just about everybody in the 24-54 demo likely checks the news on the net at work and feels no need to watch it.

Sort of like print newspapers. Just fading away.....

So,

Are you saying the Idiots who'd use beck for news and/or entertainment are
dying off?

We should be so lucky.

There's only one TV in the dayroom, so they only count as one viewer...

Unfortunately some people near and dear to us are latched to the Beck band wagon and won't let go! Their explanation is that someone has to do/say something to protect our country and the future of our country from those left wing extremists!

Take a CLOSE LOOK at the numbers and WHEN they were taken.

Summer numbers ALWAYS are lower 'cause real people are OUTDOORS and not vegging in front of the tube. IF ANYTHING, radio goes up a little, but not a lot. And when you think about it, no one is carrying around a "diary" to fill out when they're outdoors anyways.

Again, look closely at the material you're being fed.

Just like lead-tained chicken from China, you don't know what it's all about unless you check the facts.

And no one is going to volunteer that stuff if it's going to deflate their side of the argument.

It's a pretty simple and effective formula, it been working for televangelists and other con-artists for years. Invent a villain and blame them for all the evils of the world. People love simple "solutions" to complex issues, especially when delivered by someone with charisma. The content can be nonsense, most people don't know the difference.

Last time I talked to this person, she said she missed the last Beck episode, -err show, but had it recorded. I laughed and told her she had it right the first time. They are all "episodes".

I got peppered with notices from my cable company prior to the changeover. You have to get a converter or box for any analog tv's you have in the house, blah blah blah...

2 tv's in my house are wired digital and the other (analog) set didn't get as many channels, before this I didn't was the mmoney renting a box for that set. Comcast here still runs all the cable news shows on the same channels.
and I didn't lose them on the analog set after conversion. I have another property that still has old co ax wiring and analog tv's. The cable network is the same and all cable news channels come thru there too.

I don't know what different cable companies may be doing to channels in home setups still wired with co-ax. Maybe they just blocked or dropped those channels.

Bored of name calling?????? hahahahahah!

Rip the cable out of the wall

I got fed up with paying for cable. I plugged an old desktop into the flatscreen and netflix/hulu just about everything. Its a beautiful thing.

PS. The wii is the in bedroom, and I mean that.
