BMW forum

Can anyone here recommend a decent forum (like this one) for the BMW guys?

I'm looking at getting another car for my wife (for work). I would like to start reading up on them. Which ones to avoid, etc...

Any help appreciated.

there are a couple, www.bimmerforums.com You have to wade through all the punk kid ballers 'Yo i'm gonna slam my M3 and put some 20" rims on it' but there is some good info there. Pelican Parts has a bmw section and there is bimmerfest.com

My brother has a 96' (E36) M3 and I have a 01' (E39) 540 Wagon, both are decent vehicles, but will have issues you need to watch out for.

*2 on Bimmerforums. I search there for a answers when my stepdad has questions about his 325i.

Just watch out for the kids. The BMW is an upscale Civic

LOL!!....... Oh well.... I'm beyond that now. After looking at cars (Acura, Lexus, BMW, etc...) I keep coming back to MB.

Now I am looking at the MB E350's and some of the later (newer) C class.....

We have seriously increased our mileage (for us). We are driving 900 to 1200 miles per week. I really "need" a reliable, comfortable car that can carry a little bit of gear. I was hoping to find a wagon.

I was looking at 2004-2005 CDI's. But, with the advent of the E350.... Those MPG's are not that bad for the size of the car. The C class is a little better is some cases. But, I don't know squat about those cars. I see that some of the C350's were built in South Africa, Austria? Are these cars safe to buy? Mid 20's would be nice for MPG figures. I don't want to spend more than $22,000.

We "audit" Beer, Liquor and Wine. This takes us all over the state. There is no "closer to work" scenario.

I would personally snap up an E320 over E350.

The M272 has issues with the balance shaft that could turn into problems later on down the road, especially if your planning to hold onto it for a while.

Edit: Your shopping for a W211, correct?

Being on the Jeep, Chevy Truck, Volvo and BMW forum (bimmerforum and the e28 forum) nobody is as good as this place! I am so used to people responding on this forum that the others seem so slow. Case in point - I asked a simple question about the 960 the other day and still have had nobody respond!
The BMW forums are just as bad...

That being said - take a look at the Volvos if you want a comfortable car that is put together much better than the BMW and is in my opinion 99% as good as Mercedes! The quality seems to be very close to the W126 in my 960....

I think the 2004 E320 is about as reliable as they get. Almost no problems.

Thanks for all the input! I was not aware of the balance shaft problem. It seems that some models have the problem and some don't. It looks like it was a real problem in 2006. But, then some models even up to 2007 and 2008 have the same problem.

Because of this I am leaning towards a "needle in the haystack" White 2004-2005 CDI.

I was hoping to buy a "newer car". Those values really stay up there on the MB. Even the crappy models...

I hope the little "chug bug" can hang in there until we get another one. We work so much... It is hard to have the time to look for a car.

LOL!! I was surprised that he had not responded.... Anyway....

What was the switchover years for "bluetec"?

I was just looking at a 2006 320 CDI and there was no bluetec badge. I need to learn more about the changeover and the associated problems with each. I am just now learning about all of this. I have driven both 2004 and 2005's. I like the car. The power is pretty amazing when you push that little button. Was not expecting that.
