I've heard it isn't that great--with Adam Corolla and the motocross-turned-rallycross driver, not sure it is all that funny either. Top Gear (UK) is my favorite show hands down...not too fond of the recent change to 6 episodes per season and the "serious" turn it has taken (though the tribute to Ayrton Senna 2 eps ago was great). There are rumors that History Channel has bought a number of Top Gear episodes but hasn't aired any of them. I also remember that Top Gear was broadcast on TLC a few years ago but didn't last very long. If you have BBC America, which is usually a digital cable option, they air a watered down version of the show (music is different, some things blurred out, segments get cut).

I don't know if any combination of people can top the absurdity of the three UK hosts.

I heard the producers/network cancelled it after seeing the pilot.

Top Gear, When ever theres a new episode, our buddy steve downloads it and we enjoy! IMO one the best shows out there. There new found seriousness in some of it is a bit odd but still pretty good. The Senna segment was fantastic. One of the best interviews in a while was Cameron and Tom. And a few episodes back, the Robin Reliant + Clarkson....OMFG my guts were sore for 2-3 days i'd laughed so hard!

The running joke between Stig and Rubens is pretty good too! Love that show, it must never go away! Dr Who is another goodie, my god Karen Gillan is........wow.......want!

Resurrecting a thread....

Update: U.S. Top Gear not looking good. The more they show on the History channel previews (and of course, making it sound like an EPIC show coming to the U.S.) the lamer and lamer it looks. Adam Ferraro is not quite funny, and neither is Travis Pastrana. I don't get why they don't just buy the rights and air it here. BBC-A is airing them but they are a "premium" channel. There is a HUGE following here for the existing show, I have not heard ANY positive feedback so far...

Top Gear Australia - No thanks
Top Gear Russia - I laughed a few times, but no thanks
Top Gear USA - .... outlook not so good

Why don't they just raise Clarksons salary instead of making crappy spin offs and broadcast it worldwide? Look at how many people torrent or watch Top Gear on Youtube. The people want Top Gear UK and more of it, not some crappy remake with a guy who rode "The Man Show" into the ground. Correct me if I'm wrong but Top Gear UK is the most watched show in the world.

I wanted to hurl a brick at the TV when I saw one of the previews. One of the annoying hosts voice was counting how fast he was going with some epic music "... 120.....130.....140.....150......ONE HUNDRED SIXTY HA HA HA. ONE HUNDRED SIXTY IN A FOUR DOOR!. "

Really? that's the best teaser clip you've got? Did you have to pick a host that does NOT seem funny, and gets a little too excited about stupid things?

Then there's the one where they are jumping a Cadillac and laughing merrily. I love the challenges, try to kill a car episodes, so that might make it worth watching.

Still, the casting may ruin it for me.

It looks like a loser. The 169 mph clown needs to talk to James May about how to go fast. It may be the most watched show. Last week 60 Minutes reported 350 million viewers. I think the 350 million number is correct.

I am not so picky.

The more car shows *of any type* on TV - the better.

I dont have cable, so PBS's 'Motor Week' is the highlight of my tv watching experience, and as far as car shows go, watching Motor week for cars is like reading National Geographic for the bewbies - they are there, but you have to page through a lot of crap to see them.

(seriously - Motor Week is a good show, but its only 0.5hours long and is heavy on the 'numbers' of cars - price, interior room, back seat utility...and light on the "excitement")

Even if the hosts suck- I'd give it a few years or more before giving up - Topgear.uk had a lousy first year or two (on its second start in the early 2000's)- and ANY show that gives the manuf's/salesmen/.gov agencies/dealers a chance to look into the mind of a car enthusiast is ok with me.

I'm not all about Imports, but I appreciate the real effort
I'm not all about Muscle cars, but I see the work that goes into them too
I'm not all about $500k show cars, but its nice to dream. And if there is a smoky burnout or some high-slip angle oversteer invovled - then the show just got that much better =)

A show about cars can NOT be worse than any of the manufactured-humor soul-draining prime time shows that enthrall many of my peers from 6p to 11pm on weeknights
