'80s Mercedes Sales Brochures/Videos/Centenial Items Stash Found

Good friend, fellow forum member, and MB nut Daniel Wallach went up to the Northeast to purchase a 40k original mile 300D 2.5. The recently deceased owner was described as the Billy Graham of Mercedes. Apparently he was an ex-Nazi and German national that moved to the US to train salesmen in the whole Northeastern region. He retired in the early '90s near the end of the golden era.

I was allowed to potentially purchase and borrow some items, including a salesmen's edition 1986 sales packet (the year I was born), the centennial of Mercedes history with beautiful artwork, 2 Andy Worhol Mercedes calenders circa 1989, 2 Mercedes grill radios, a box full of sales related videos, and tons of other books and sales paraphernalia filling 7 boxes.

I've uploaded some photos and some poor quality video clips of some of the videos. I've been just drooling. My favorite videos have been the 1989 model overview, the 1983 190E 2.3 I6 world record 50,000 km time challenge, and the 1990 European delivery video. Another good one is the value of the W126 video explaining that a Mercedes costs more up front but saves more in the long run, because the rest are basically crap and fall apart, or rapidly depreciate.

Enjoy! I've been enamored with everything for the last 4 hours.

This is my favorite photos of the book. 3 months ago I was sitting at the cafe facing the same few of the Monte Carlo Casino in Monaco, staring at all the high end cars pulling in. 2 cars I currently own were depicted in this work. It got me a little misty...

Here's my snapshot of that day. Crazy, huh?

Video clips to come in next post:

These were the good ol' days. Amazing

The Premier of the R129:

Production R129: My first one, so its a bit shaky.

1989 Model Run introduction:

Factory Quality 1989

European Delivery and Museum and history 1989:

Active Safety 1989:

W126 riding the high wall from the passenger seat

Understanding the numbers and letters on the trunk.

A family pulling up in a 300TE to do yachting... Classy:

The S class line (obviously lacking the diesel) battery quit on the 560SEC.

More will come later...

You have stumbled on a gold mine there. I think J Lenno or some one like him would pay good money for something like that !

Tyler is there any chance you would take the time to scan them and post them up as a collection of your brochures since you've started with the w123 ones before? Those videos could be converted to digital format (probably) too.

That's a very nice find, I envy you and your incredible finds. Great work!

Massive score, thank you so much for sharing it with us.

Most people don't understand the lure of this era of Mercds Benz cars.

It was the end of "the Best, or Nothing" motto put into practice.

Now the brand name equity is being squandered, with the marketers and advertisers shoving the engineers aside, and the cars being advertised as "You TOO, can drive a brand new Mercedes Benz for $399 a month"

Never mind that is is being leased.

Now it's the Walmart philosophy: "Pile em high and sell 'em cheap."

Nein danke.

But these hark back to the glory days when price was no object, build quality, longevity, old world craftsmanship, and durability was assured.

I would take a mint condition 1977 bottom of the line 240 Diesel, over a 2001 top of the line mint 12 cylinder 600SEL any day.

No contest.
