Because they CAN.

Does that help you understand?

Or perhaps because......
"The union was bringing him in to meet with the company to remedy the problem," Hollis told the Hartford Courant. "He started shooting.""

It's nuts. Channel 3 is reporting 9 dead now in a breaking news text.

Thoughts and prayers for the victims and their families.

Makes no difference.

He could have done it with two model 1873 Colt peacemakers, or two Model 1882 Smith& Wesson pistols.

Or a sawed-off shotgun.

Or....well, you get the picture, he's nuts!!!!

Yes. At worst he would have lost his job. Big deal, go out and find another one. I went 6 months without working and eventually I found something. If he had lived then he would have spent the rest of his life in prison. Rational thinking isn't for everyone I guess.

CT is still under the ban, although I don't see what that has to do with this. It has not been reported what rifle was used.

Tragedy, some crazy people out their.

.223 caliber, obviously an assault rifle.

In this news report:

http://www.courant.com/community/manchester/hc-omar-thornton-workplace-shooting-020100803,0,837990.story

Your ban must be tough, what is it, like a two hr drive to NH ?

Please spare me your supposed expertise, an assault rifle is made for one purpose: killing as many people in as short amt of time as possible. While I am sure those weapons could do the job, it is like comparing jack knives to a lawn mower.

Umm no, not obviously an assualt rifle. Lots of .223 hunting rifles, could have been a mini 14.

.223 is not a military caliber.

Yes our ban is rather pointless and tough, it prevents legit gunowners from buying some interesting things. I can't speak for criminals, I don't beleive they consult the laws before driving to NH.

This is all speculation at this point, we have no information what weapon was used other than the caliber.

Latest reports are saying it was a handgun, which he ultimately used to kill himself. During the press conference an officer stated a handgun was used but couldn't elaborate whether any other weapons were used at this time.

He probably would have looked suspicious showing up at a meeting with his union rep and his assault rifle.
