The mood here in the last couple years is one big reason why you guys don't see me here very often anymore.

But we're seeing this kind of confrontational behavior everywhere in our society now. I watch FOX News a lot and am the first to admit that much of the content fuels this. Instead of simply reporting facts, many times the reporters pick out bits of information that commentators will argue about and ask them about that, thus fueling an entertaining debate. Other networks do the same thing.

No one wants to discuss things anymore.... just argue and prove the other person wrong.

You don't like the mood here, but watch Fox "News"?

About five minutes of those blowhards passing themselves off as a news outlet, should be obvious as a sham.

The blowhards are on all the networks. I watch Fox because I'm a conservative and many of the hosts share my views. But fueling the fire for enertainment purposes is common to all the networks. Look at MSNBC and you'll see the same thing. I've worked on Chris Mathew's show many times and know firsthand what a blowhard he is.

Aww. I wish Bot still posted! I came on here soon after he left. I missed out! I wish he'd come back *sniffle*

Again, like everyone says, if you don't like it, you can avoid it. I DEFINITELY avoid threads I don't want to get into. If I want to read it, just to see, I will read, but not post.

Of course, I suppose you wish you COULD participate in political threads, and not have everyone name-calling and such. Now that would be a problem. I suppose this particular thread will be the most tame of them all? Not that we're really discussing politics, but discussing how to discuss them...

Do not leave! Please don't. Don't let a few threads put you off. There are other sections than the OD which are useful! And even in OD, there are other sections of general discussion. And again, even in the OD, there are threads that aren't full of heated name-calling debates!

Hmm...well, anyway, just for you, I pulled up the Pretty Girls Thread again. Hee hee. Hope you like something! ^.^ See? No politics or religion there!

I have to agree that the moderators here have a tough job. Of course they want people to have freedom of speech, but also have to know when to take action. That has to be really tough. Of course, if things get really out of hand, and the mods aren't doing anything, anyone offended can just report threads/posts! Help them out. Poor guys can't be everywhere at once. To read every single post on this forum would be insane. Even if there were more mods.

So please stay! Enjoy some silly threads in open discussion. Maybe The Clk Man will make a new fun one to participate in! Another question thread maybe? Hee hee. Or a poll for favorite cheese! BTW, dude, I love your threads. They are so amusing.

My input of the day. I now must go to class! ...Well, first I have to go buy an expensive book, and THEN go to class with it. Toodles!

A simple truth is that, despite the hand wringing, OD is a guilty pleasure for most that click on the forum topics. It doesn't matter whether you participate in the thread or not.

As a relatively long time participant, i have apparently "stepped over the line" a few times and have learned from the experiences. There are some that do and some that don't.

I gave up on TV "news" many years ago, it's just noise. There are plenty of other news sources available, no need to deal with the idiot box.

As a not so subtle jab about the nature of the threads . . . it sure wouldn't hurt if those that seemingly object to the goings on in the socio-politico threads to perhaps start a few of their own pertaining to topics of their liking.

Nature abhors a vacuum, so if you leave the selection of topics to those few that want to express a point of view, then that's what will fill the vacuum.

yeah, I know, that is very dangerous!

How about this...

Let's keep the political/religious/etc threads civil and

start

A PERSONAL INSULT THREAD!

I mean a place where we can call each other weenies without getting too caught up in Fox News Vs CNN stuff...

How about it?

Oh BTW, Thanks to Iwrock for the Spam thread and to Miss Drezell for the postings in the PGT...

Hell, I think all the tussling about is fun. Works the mind. So what if we don't all agree? That's what makes this country great, free discourse. BTW, this forum is mild compared to some of the other auto related General forums I have seen.

That has to be the most ridiculous pin-headed excuse for... oh wait.... this isn't the personal insult thread is it??

My apologies good sir.

Agreed, the MSNBC lot is left leaning, obvious.

They do not call themselves "News", however. Neither do Bill-O or Beck, those are OPINION shows, not NEWS shows. Mattews and Olberman are also OPINION shows.

Too often people can't seem to tell the difference and believe whatever their favorite pundit says to be gospel.

A NEWS show is a venue to relay the news of the day, vs. opining upon it.

All real journalists know this and those that can't help themselves buy air time. Nothing wrong with that, as long as the viewers understand so too.

That place can get gnarly. No restriction of the regular use of the forbidden words, tawdry threads often enough.

I do agree civility is good but I don't go along with the notion that the thread, The Beckoning, started by a distinguished member, is a troll thread.

GB attracts a lot of attention and seems to me that many of his fans are not familiar with the extent of his dishonesty.
