Man vs Wild

Anyone watch that show? I can't say that I do, but whenever it's on and I catch it when I flip through channels I'll watch it if it's interesting.

I've noticed that Bear seems to rush through things. For example, he'll eat something raw when it would be better if it's cooked. I mean, couldn't he wait and prepare a fire? Like that one episode where he catches a catfish and eats it raw. Was that necessary? Or when he goes hunting, he still has his pack and he looks hurried making a weapon or something. If it were me, I'd set things aside and do things methodically.

I understand it's a survival thing, but it looks liek he's always rushing it. Yeah, it's a 1-hour show, but still.

I've watched a bunch of them...they are incredibly set up and masterfully planned (like when he just happens to come across something useful)

Totally scripted around his enormous ego.
If you’re into that sort of show and want something far more real, stick with Les Stroud.

Its fake. I remember one Youtuber found a where they were filming and showed what it really looked like. The camera angle from the show made it look like he was out in the middle of nowhere. However if you pan over a bit a major highway was about 1k feet away.

Completely scripted? I can understand that a bit of planning and scripts are necessary, but if it's totally fake then that's a disappointment since I thought it was sort of real and that's what made the show interesting.

On a related note, I've watched a few episodes of Dual Survival (never watched the show from beginning to end though) and sorta like it, but I don't know how real that is. Then there is Man, Woman, Wild. Wonder how real those shows are.

I think they are all scripted except survivorman. The man woman wild show is truly just awful. Painful to watch.

In our house, I’m only allowed to say “yea…rightonce while watching TV.
After that, Darby comes in, grabs the remote and shuts the thing down.
Then makes the claim that “If it’s that full of it...you don’t need to be watching it.”
Guess I can’t argue with that.

Man versus Wild is not "fake" per say. Its what t is, a survival show. No claims were made that he is all alone and spending nights outdoors. Heck, he has a huge camera crew with him anyway. I think what happened is that Survivorman, which is "real" in the sense that he is outdoors alone and no one is even looking for him, sorta upped the standards for TV shows like this. So everyone often compared the two.

Either way, Bear is an idiot for half the stuff he does. Like drink his own unfiltered urine.

And the famous clip:

Man vs. Wild is just pure entertainment, IMO. Watching this slightly hyper, slightly mental ex-SAS guy do slightly crazy things and eat plenty of disgusting stuff. That's about it.

John's right about Les Stroud, his show Survivorman is more *realistic*, but even his show has its dodgy moments. The premise of all of these shows is ridiculous. You could distill the useful info into about a minute of screen time. The rest is just entertainment.

Love it.
Now that’s funny. Thanks.

Like I said. Scripted to his ego.
It should be called the: I’m a real macho-man, watch what I can do, show.
But, I guess that’s just too long of a title.

On the one hand, yes, he’s quite the rough and tumble guy.
But I loose interest when I know so much of it is just a put on for entertainment TV.
I'll stick with Les for anything actually related to real "survival".

If you had one guy to help you out of the deep wilderness- would it be Bear or Survivorman?

If I was in the deep wilderness, I would prefer not having any TV personalities with me.
