oil change

I thought I had it bad changing oil in the SD.

8 quarts of oil = $32
oil filter = $7

Going to change the oil in my VW W8.

9.4 quarts of oil (yes 9.4) = $45
oil filter = $13

Damn... What are you putting in it?

And people think aviation supplies are pricey. NOT.

AeroShell 15/50 - $4.99
AeroShell Turbine - $8.99

I use Motul 505.01 5w-40 oil. Castrol has a 505.01 oil, but it's now 5w-30. The Castrol 505.01 was 5w-40 when I got the car. It was and is about $7/quart.

How often are changes required @ how many hours of use?

I don't know the answer, but I'm going to guess 100 hours. Am I close?

Come along on my next road trip of several thousand miles and change the oil with me in a Walmart Supercenter's parking lot on my diesel coach with the Ford 7.3 liter Powerstroke diesel. 15 Qts. of Shell 15W-40 Rotella T and Motorcraft oil filter. Oil filter is $10.00. Recycling the oil/filter back to the Walmart == priceless.

Rotella is sludge waiting to happen. synthetic oil or nothing. opened up too many valve covers on cars running synthetic, the valve train is clean enough to eat off of. not so when the engine is running dyno oil, a greasy messy build-up. no thanks.

I agree about synthetic oil, Husky. I've opened up a lot of motors, some using synthetic and others not. The difference is not subtle.

Why are you using that? I would use the 5W40 synthetic because it is easier to start. I can start mine in 20 below with no heater.

Perhaps so but them stripping the bolt can be priced. Especially if they have to change the pan. You do realize that the engine has to be removed, turned upside down and a special sealer is used, right?

I love my truck, I buy whatever synthetic oil change kit is on sale for $27, and I only have to do it when the OLM tells me to. Usually around 7kish.

That is a good question. They suggest to use synthetic so I assumed 5K mile intervals. I will have to check.

I wouldn't without doing a UOA. It could be more or it could be less.
