How freaking stupid can you be?????

A teachers aid wrote a note on a special needs students arm in marker. Aside from the act that the student has a journal that is supposed to be used for communication between the school and parent. Not only did the aid use a marker on a special needs childs arm. The nim-rod could not even spell the word "night" correctly. Thankfully the aid was canned.

WFAA

The video segment on WFAA showed the childs arm with a note written in lack marker saying "Call Jayne!! to nite!".

Just saw that one too.
They said something about the aide getting the name wrong as well.

Personally - I don't see how it's news worthy either way though. Slow night I guess.

Just had to go there huh? It's different typing. By brain got it right but the fingers did not get the message.

I guess it is a slow night but in away I think it is news worthy in the sense that people need to treat people with respect and may be this will wake some people up. I see your point though.

Are you freaking serious? Special needs or not, if you write a note on my kids arm in marker you better hope you get fired. I do not have kids but I am pretty sure I'd be totally PO'ed.

Given that there was a journal specifically for the purpose of communicating between school and parent makes it even worse. The aid could not have used a piece of paper? She is in a school after all.

Did you ever stop to consider how a special needs kid would feel having a note written on her arm? Do you think other kids might have made fun of her?

This country becomes more and more a land of people who just don't give crap about others.

I don't know. I write notes to myself on my hands all the time. I've got one on there right now, but it's faded and I can't read it. It must have been important because I underlined it. I should have used permanent marker.
Certainly not a reason to fire someone in my view.

So did I. Most of the time, if an hour or two elapsed, sweat, dirt or whatever would obscure the note I wrote so badly that I couldn't read it or it didn't make sense. Still, that is us not her (student). You shouldn't be writing on somebody's arm when there is already a procedure in place. IF this was her first month teaching, I might give her a pass, spank her and be done. 9 yrs experience? A little hard to give the benefit of the doubt.

I wouldn't hesitate to write something on my daughter's hand if she needed to remember something. It all depends on the precise circumstances but it strikes me that someone is making a mountain out of a molehill. Did anyone ask the kid what he or she thought? Maybe the kid asked that it be done.

I'd say a meeting with the principal and supervising teacher is in order and perhaps a letter in the personnel file good for a year. Aides are generally paid little more than minimum, and have the kind of training that goes with that pay scale. On the other hand, it makes them a dime a dozen, as long you don't need one who knows how to spell.

No I'm not kidding. He/she should have had a warning absolutely and if they really had to maybe a suspension with out pay for a week...but turning someones life up side down for such a small offense. Pussys, taking the easy way!

If I would have complained about what teachers have done to me or to my class mates, the entire school would have been in line for a welfare check!

And don't you worry I care about others, in this case about the teacher

In my kids' school there is a notebook for every kid so that the teacher can communicate with the parents. From overhearing teachers talk about 20% of parents have never looked at the notebook- in other words it's completely useless to those 20%. Perhaps this parent was one of those 20%, and the kid was itching, dying, ie really wanted to go to an event and needed the parents to sign off on a permission slip. Since the parent never looked at the notebook how is the school to tell her? Maybe the kid told the aide to write on her arm- we don't know. The story is short on details to make a complete assessment of the situation. Fired over this? IDK if that is the correct decision based on the info in the story.

No, now the class gets to do without an aide. It will take a month or more for the school board to find someone who wants to deal with those kids and parents and administrators for near minimum wage. If we all got fired for every dumb thing we did, we'd all be on the street. Oh and the number of parents who never look in that "communication book" is way more than 20%.
