At 6'6" what Mercedes can I fit in?

Maybe an odd topic but I need some help on this.

I have a W124 and being in the drivers seat is fine but I am wondering what chassis or model types would be a good fit for me that is 1995 or earlier and true vintage (60's and 70's) can be included.

I am asking because we always had a W124 diesel when growing but I seem to remember that by the time I was starting college that room for my legs in the drivers seat seemed to be cramped.

So with that being said......What can I fit in that would be of at least (or close to) as comfortable and with the space behind the drivers wheel as the W124 (It's a 300 TE if it matters).

I am also interested in knowing if there is a convertible I could fit in.

......also, I am asking this here because I realize I am asking an extremely broad question, I am just at the point where I am thinking of getting rid of a car or two (or three) and replacing them with a single car (or suv) that I can drive and work on.

Any convertible before the R129 is out. I'm 6' 2" and barely fit in my 1985 500SL.

My uncle is pretty big (6' 4"), we're a family of long limbs, mind you, and he fit perfectly in a W126, and even better (in his opinion) in his W140. He can fit in our W210 a little less easily.

I was not expecting answers this fast.........Damn you guys are good

....also, I am not getting rid of the W124 I have now so practical is not necessary which is why I mention a convertible..........but I have given up on the idea that I can have a convertible a long long time ago, that is except for my Jeep CJ-7.

I don't know if you're tall as in torso tall, or limbed, but I have legs as long as my uncles on a 6' 2" body, and I was able to fit in a friends R129 with ease. This was with the top down, however.

Based on the remarks of the designer of the W126 (Herr Bruno Sacco,)

who said the W140 was too tall, (4" taller than the W126), I would, if I were you, go sit in a W140 sedan or coupe, and play with the seat controls, to see if it worked to give you the room you need.

Even with a sunroof, that reduces headroom, it might.

I would say that my legs are the main issue but my torso isn't exactly compact....the other issue I should have mentioned is that I am not a lanky tall, I have a decent shoulder width and if anyone knows what the inside of the first generation Dodge Durango feels like....Well I cannot fit comfortable because of my shoulder width.

My jeans/pants length is 36" with a possibility of 34" depending on who makes them if that gives any idea on leg to torso size. I will see if I can get my Wife to take some measurements and maybe that will help a bit more.

It pretty much sucks finding clothes that fit and just as much of a pain finding a car that fits.

Thanks again for helping out......I do not really have an idea of what I really want and I hate to be one of those guys that go's places wasting everyone's time, especially if it is a private seller, and hopefully this will narrow it down.

I am 79"s tall... stay away from the w123.

I would do a gen 2 w126... when you have the seat far back you can telescope the steering wheel closer to you, no hunching over to rear the wheel. W124 fits tall guys pretty well imho.

I would bet a w140 would be sweet... never been in one myself.

If you would consider a non Mercedes Benz, then

FWIW, and this is the last year to buy a new one, the Mercury Grand Marquis might be worth a look, they are dead bang reliable, and unbelievabley roomy, as regards leg, hip, shoulder and arm room.

Front head room: 39.5
Front shoulder room: 60.6
Front leg room: 41.6

This one is mine. The Lincoln Town car and Ford Crown Victoria are built on the same ("Panther") platform and enjoy the same dimensions and great reputation.

Buyong a 8-12 month old one can save the HUGE depreciation hit, (in my case almost 50%!!!) made the purchase a no brainer.

The 2010 daily rental units are already hitting the Ford/Lincoln Mercury dealer lots from auctions, choose your color.

They are the all 100A "fleet" models without the headroom robbing sunroofs on them, btw.

Any car with a proper sun roof will make it harder, you loose a couple of inches of head room.

Jim B, Thanks for the info on the Grand Marquis but I am not much of a Caddy, Lincoln (unless it is a 71 continental), and the Mercury line and was really looking for some options in the MB line of autos.

My other option is to go with another W124 (maybe another wagon) and going with a higher performance engine.

...and when I say I am not sure what I want I really mean it...I am a big fan of MB diesels as well a gasser inline 6's.....and my experience with MB V-8's is pretty much looking at them or watching them.

I am really split between wanting a big older 4 door with a big power plant or trying to find a nice convertible that fits my big ass.

....Another also... I am not afraid to do a restoration or a partial restoration. What are the late 60's to early 70's 300SEL's with a 6.3L in it?

How about a MB delivery truck or a unimog.

As long as it isn't like an SLK where the back wall gets in the way, you can always custom mount your seat back farther (and lower).

I've seen that done to the cars for guys like Shaq.
