Wait a minute. My dash is not black!
I was driving with the sun to the far right down a highway and I noticed that the dash, gauges, etc are actually a very, very dark brown. Anyone who sees the car says it looks black.
Whats up with that? lol

Recently went to the Fredericksburg Pull-A-Part to get a black center-console for a friend's W123 230TE. The only car with a decent console was an '83 240D. Looked black but when I installed it in my friend's wagon, it was actually a very dark brown. My friend didn't care. It was close enough, and certainly better than the original one - ripped apart by a radio-thief.

Exterior is black. I don't see a paint code number on the build sheet for exterior. Interior is 264A DATE LEATHER - SAFRAN / JAVA

From my 1991 American spec. S class brochure library:
My factory original U.S.spec 1991 S class upholstery / paint chart shows upholstery code 274 as "Palomino", not date or saffron or java(which is NOt mentioned at all).
The models depicted in the factory original 1991 S -class US spec sales brochure that have Palomino interiors have a dark dashboard that cannot be told whether, from the pictures is very dark brown or black. So the evidence from what I see is inconclusive as to the dash color with Palomino interiors on the 1991 "S" W126 sedans and coupes. Per the U.S. spec 1991 S class upholstery/paint brochure, your car's exterior paint is either 199 black pearl or 040 black.

Yes, there's a very dark brown dash. From my experience with the W201, there are Black, Brown, Blue and Red dash and console pieces. Most of the dark brown ones I've encountered have been from the late 80's, early 90's cars.

Did the dashes match the interior color or have an accent like mine? 040 C 220 CANADA SPECIAL EDITION <--- must be the exterior color.
