Anyone here use FACOM tools?

They seem to be significantly more expensive than Snap-ons. I wonder what the difference is.

Does anyone here use them?

Well when I first came across them they used to be significantly cheaper than Snap-on... the ones I used to use were good quality and dependable - just like Snap-on. At the moment though I've only got the cash for Gedore which I think for the price are quite reasonable.

FACOM didn't raise its prices until it was purchased by S-K Wayne in the US. Then the prices got higher.

Don't see them in the Griot catalogs I get anymore, used to though. French tools, probably not highly thought of by the Germans.... I use Stahlwille and Hazet, good stuff.

A buddy of mine worked for Stanley tools, he said almost all the tools like wrenches and sockets are made at the same factory, and sold under different brands like Snap On and Craftsman.

A similar story, a friend of mine use to work at a bread factory, and he said that the same bread was put in high end bread wrappers and the cheap store brand wrappers.

How much use do you think you will get out of it? If you don't hardly do squat with them, just get some crap set. If you get occasional use, get Craftsman. A lot of use like a mechanic, Snap On, Matco, etc, etc.

Pretty easy to tell the difference between artisan bread and wonder bread, and the same goes for tools. facom and snap-on are good quality and worth it if you're a pro tech...(or horribly brand conscious, like me). craftsman, s-k, wright, are good enough for most applications and a little cheaper. most "imported" (read china/taiwan) are not worth the cheap, stamped tin they're made from

My knuckleskin is worth more to me than those kind of tools.... I throw them out when I come across them.

Spend more, bleed less.

Another fine consideration for spending more on your tools is the actual size of the wrenches, sockets, etc. The better made brands are stronger and thinner at the same time. Can't count how many times I could only fit a snap-on socket or wrench into the hole.

Your buddy is full of it. Snap on makes their own wrenches and sockets.

I have an old Craftsman ratchet that our local Snap On man says was made by Snap On, back in the day. For what that's worth. It's a really nice, short-handled ratchet. One of my favorite tools.

If you want to confirm this, go on to one of the old tool forums, similar to this one. I belong to one and even though the manufacturers were different, they very often made gears etc., that were identical, so that many ratchet repair pieces will fit between Snaopon Craftsman etc.
