Unhappy So I found out what happened to my first car I had in High School

I actually found this out before I left for Texas a few months ago, but I was going through my phone and stumbled about the pictures. I loved this burgundy 86 300E I had, it had some pretty good times back in High School with me, and it survived the days of me thinking I was a good driver I sold it because I was interested in a w124 diesel and wanted to sell it to raise the money. It sold a week after and what was kind of cool is the guy who bought it was local, so I'd see it occasionally driving around with its keymarks (from a community college parking lot) that the guy who bought it never fixed lol

Well my dad called me one day and was like "you need to go to Theo's (our indy) and see what's there." So sure enough I did and when I saw it, it made me sad It was almost at 200,000 miles I think it was like 3-400 miles short. What happened was, he was at the airport at night and an elderly lady in the car behind him had a stroke while driving, and she slammed into him at full force, what a bummer Just thought I'd share it with y'all. I think he was going to see how much the insurance will give him and then part it out.

Back in 2007, for some reason I wanted to see what it looked like with a flat...don't ask why... lol

[IMG][/IMG]
My friend and I being silly, you can't see it but the cup was stuck to his Jeans by moisture and it looked pretty funny, like it was just floating there.

[IMG][/IMG]Fresh after a wash in 2007, I was very proud!

[IMG][/IMG]
Few weeks before she got hit, I saw her in the parking lot so I parked my current 300E next to her and took a picture.

WOW! Sorry to see what happened. I hope the owner was ok! And I must say that the rear doors look like they would open just fine. And close again! Which is amazing!

And that is one SHARP benz! Well, was....

Another bitter sweet tale.... We mourn the loss of the vehicle as we marvel at how well it protected the passengers...

@LandYaghtLover- Yeah I think the owner was okay, and I know right? great engineering on these cars!

@cmbdiesel- So true, I hate to see these cars get crashed, but it's so interesting to see how they handled it, especially by todays standards!

Yikes that car was hit hard! Oddly enough a pair of W124s are featured in the videos that Mercedes just posted.

Ouch, I know all to well how it feels to see a car you once cherished destroyed. Next classic MB I buy will be going to the grave with me, I'm never again going to spend hours upon hours on it, only to watch the next owner throw it away.

One of my uncles has the same attitude with his old Vette that he has owned for 16+ years. He is like its worthless now so some kid will buy it and trash it, and he refuses to watch all his hard work taking care of it go down the drain like that. He is right.

Best to know that the owner bought a safe and well cared for car. These things happen (lost my high school car to accident in March this year) and the best thing they can do is pull through in situations like this where it REALLY matters. FWIW my first car (chevy celebrity wagon) was literally turned into a doghouse so don't feel too bad about it!

What if it were to go to a hard-working, responsible family man looking for a fun weekend driver? Perhaps even a bald, fatter one? Worthless sounds like it's right in my price range!

Sad to see but, wow, did it do its job!

I'm sure any of my childhood vehicles (a '79 F100, a '77 F250 and an '84 S-10 Blazer) have rotted into the ground by now since they were fairly close to that by the time I got them.

Makes me sick to look at those pics - my first 87 300D was the same color and interior. Only 132K on it when bought in July 06. Spent two years going over it and had it running like a Swiss watch - then in Dec 08 some jackass in a Ford Explorer that was too busy talking on his cell and late for his tee time at the golf course ran a red light and t-boned it in the rear passenger door at 55 mph. Spun that car around 180 and threw it 30 feet clear of the road up into a parking lot. Everything from the passenger door back to the tail light was smashed in well past the rear wheel. Warped the frame bad enough the paint on the opposite side was buckled, sunroof popped out of it's frame, drivers side rear door wouldn't close, and the hood popped up a good six inches on one side.

Only thing I got out of it was a set of bruised ribs from the center arm rest.

On top of that, I was able to start the car, do a 180 turn, and drive it to the back of the wrecker like nothing was wrong.

My father looked at the car when we got it home. He didn't say a word for a couple minutes, then turned around to look at his favorite son that was still in one piece thanks to that car, and said "I think you'd better buy another one of those!".

The heart and soul of any car is not the bodywork, or chassis. It is the engine. That's all that matters. The engine lives on, then the car lives on.
