OT Saturn SUV steering wheel question
A friend with a Saturn SUV has a stuck horn. Checked the relay, it works fine, so it is in the horn switch inside the steering wheel somewhere. How do you get the cover off the steering wheel, or pull the wheel off (or whatever is necessary)? It has an airbag and the horn is part of that part of the steering wheel. I thought maybe the cover would pop off but no luck with that. I didn't want to get too crazy around the airbag.
Anybody familiar with the Saturn setup? thanks Fred Emmerich

It should have two screws that hold the airbag assembly from the backside, most likely security torx heads.
The actual horn switch is activated by a plate the airbag mounts to. The failure could be a few different things though: First, the spring that supports that plate could be weak allowing it to droop and make contact. Second, there could be a chafed wire against that plate grounding it, or third it could be a bad clock spring in the column. If the airbag warning light is on, it's probably a bad clock spring. Not fun to replace. |
