Mac Users, Get Ready for "Lion"

For the 4% of users that don't do Windows . . . OS X 10.7 in 2011:

App Store for Mac
"Mission Control"

Other products

Facetime for Mac beta
iLife 11

Is an 11" Macbook Air for $1000 a "netbook?"

Its actually about 20% that done use windows and of that 20%, 50% are Mac users

And lets not start a flame war, cockroaches are also superior in numbers but that does not denote a superior intelligence I am more than happy to have a computer not slowed down by anti-virus software and plagued by adware/spyware. And one that can boot into windows if I must!

Crummy version of Windows . . . isn't that redundant?

Sorry but Windows isn't bad, I have 5 running her (plus several virtuals) and I don't have any issue's.
But these machines, well except the wife's, are work boxes.
I also support many others.

I don't object to Macs, just Mac Zealots (Windows and Linux zealots too).

LandYaghtLover, make sure your machine is protected, I have had to disinfect several Macs recently. Funny one fresh in from Best Buy repair

And there are more and more virus's occurring.
A couple of interesting iPhone one's I've heard of.
OH and the Kool program I have that crashes my wife's best friends iPad whenever she brings it in our house

Note too though, I don't run Vscanners either, I do run MalWareBytes regularly, and do have a good firewall protecting the perimeter.

Linux does pretty well, and you're not chained to Steve Jobs.

Simple, dont install "video codecs" that are "required" at certain sites. Right now the only viruses that are a threat have to be installed by the user. So sorta like Windows then. At this time the user HAS to do something to be infected. Luckily I am not a Mac novice (read: idiot), thus until there is a real threat I never will. In the past 10 years of servicing Macs I have only had to deal with two infections, both minor and both because of the user.

I just wish, with SO many users, Windows people would run reliable software and update it!

VERY VERY True

One reason I have never had a major infection is I keep things up to date.

Also the vast majority of virus can't get by a properly locked down Windows.
Properly locked down it IS more secure than a Mac.
I do have several clients workstations locked down like that. But most I have to leave open some to allow them to do most things without an onsite admin.

It's about time they made a cheap air; I bought a new low-end macbook for my daughter when school started, but I probably would have bought one of the 11-inch airs for this price instead. It's smaller, lighter, and it doesn't have a CD/DVD drive to ignore. I wonder if I could get away with traveling with one of these instead of my macbook pro? I can almost do that with my ipad, but not quite; this has more capability but it still needs built in 3G to do everything I need...hmm?

Lion looks good, although I'm not really an early adopter. My desktop Mac is a 1999 Yosemite tower that still runs like a top and while I do own some intel Mac laptops, I prefer to use my G4 17 inch aluminum powerbook. What exactly are viruses anyhow?

Have you ever noticed how Mac users who defend their choice of computers are referred to as "Fanboys" and "Fanatics"? What's up with that anyhow? Until the iPod came out, the usual nonsense we had to listen to was "Apple's going broke any day now" and "There's no Mac software". So much for that BS. Are those of us who own MBZs "Fanboys" because we own and will readily defend a vehicle that has a TINY market share compared to the econoboxes and Chevys? If so, I guess I'm guilty twice.

well, now that apple is gaining in market share, virus writers and hackers are going to start targeting them more. I can't wait!

I'll grab some copies of Lion when it's available, it looks like it has a few interesting features. I just downloaded the facetime application for my Mac so I can use it to chat with my daughters iphone4. I was going to buy a download-able copy of the new iLife but for some reason you have to buy the physical disc; what's that all about?

At some point I'll probably pick up an 11-inch air just to see what it's about, I do wish that SSDs would get bigger and cheaper.
