Sporty ccoupe for under $10,000

Ok, I need some help. a friend of mine at work recently sold one of his cars and is now in the market for a sporty car. problem is he only has 10k. I've never looked for a car with a budget greater then 2k LOL so i thought it would be fun to help him. but the problem is, if your spending 10k you don't want anything wrong with it, but you can't really get anything interesting for 10k....

He found a 83 SL500 AMG on ebay, but it had a list longer then my arm of failed smog tests, being in CA thats a very bad thing. other then the car was amazing!!!!

so... hes not looking for a Mercedes, but grew-up in one so hes been looking at them a lot. brand aside, whats a sporty coupe for under 10k that is interesting? (Not a Chevy )

David is selling that 500SL out in Rocklin.

IIRC its sporting some Pentas and Recaros.

Or, you can find a 98-00 SL500 for a decent price now a days.

It would help if you defined "sporty." Is the search limited to two-seaters, convertibles, etc.?

Well, he was set to buy a certain SL600 from us, until the deal for a Maserati fell thru.... :/

I suspect he will need to adjust his price range.

Hes looking for a fun car for him and his wife. so coupes are ideal. he wanted a convertible, but he has an older home and does not have a garage, only an enclosed car port (no garage door) so he wanted ether a convertible with a hard top (hes worried about the cats and weather having access to a soft top)

The other catch is hes 6'4" he wanted a Miata with a hard top... but he couldn't fit in the one we looked at

I showed him an SEC and he said it was ok

He looked at an R129 and really liked it.

He also looked at an SLK and liked it, but thats getting pretty far from his 10k budget.

Justin,
I like the idea of having him look at Davids car. David looks after cars like you do and we know how that plays into buying a used car. could you e-mail what you know about Davids car and his contact info?

Thanks!

bondavi@aol.com is the easiest way to get ahold of him.

Why not shop for another R129?

hes looking at other R129s, but also looking at anything that strikes his fancy.

What car is David selling?

I'd probably be looking at 350z and the like. You might be able to find some for very close to 10K. SL's while great cars aren't sporty at all, at least not ones under 10K, nor would I consider them coupes since they have retractable roofs.

RSXs hatchbacks are very nice too if he doesn't mind FWD. RX-8s can be had for under 10K as well, great handling cars.

Davids also got 2 AMG W126 coupes and a Euro 560SEC that makes 300hp that could also be for sale for the right offer.

Justin, sounds good, we should hang out and talk cars with Paul some time. hes getting an itchy trigger finger and I don't want him getting something just to get something, if you know what I mean. You are really good at spotting deals

As for the 350Z I'm pretty sure thats on his list to sit in lol. thats one of the main things with sports cars, the ones that are cheap are small. sucks to be tall sometime.
