What's the scam?

The local craigslist has a bunch of nice cars (audis mostly) that are 'listed' for ridiculously low prices (around $3k).

The ad asks you to email them directly.

So what's the scam? They want valid email addresses so they can...?? Maybe they figure if you are dumb enough to fall for the ad, you'll be dumb enough to fall for their phishing email later.

Is that it?

They ask you to wire them a down payment and will ship the car to you. That's usually how they work.

Is that it?
They will tell you a story how they have been deployed to the sand box and this is the reason for the sale, but because they are "on alert" they CAN'T leave the base, so someone (usually "shipping broker") will handle the delivery of the car to you. The only thing you need to do is to pay using ....some non traceable pay service and they will even ship the car to you free of charge.
What is really amazing is the fact that people get burn with this scam all the time. Why...it is beyond me.... I refuse to accept that in 21st century you can find people out there who will wire several thousand dollars to someone they never meet face to face.
Human stupidity never ends.....
