1987 300E HAMMER for sale!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260694482669&viewitem=

Please! Someone on this forum has got to have the money and desire for this car. I would get this if I could, but I don't have the money. (If I were you I would do the research first to ensure this is a genuine Hammer.)

Why I would consider buying it.

Here is the California smog test history, (the database goes back only to 1997 so with 19k on it it must have ben out of state or non-op in Ca for years.

I ran it by Vin# AND license plate number.

Number of Tests Found = 1

Test Records Station Name /
City Make Model Year Date / Time Pass / Fail Certificate

THE BUGGY HOUSE /

LOS ANGELES MERCE 300 1987 08/01/1997 10:34 a.m. P CE305823C

Autocheck reveals:

Event date Location Odometer reading Data Source Details
08/01/1997 CA 32,309 State Agency PASSED EMISSION INSPECTION
10/22/1997 CA Motor Vehicle Dept. TITLE
11/13/2001 MISSISSAUGA, ON Motor Vehicle Dept. CANADIAN RENEWAL
11/28/2003 MISSISSAUGA, ON Motor Vehicle Dept. CANADIAN RENEWAL
07/23/2007 SHERMAN OAKS, CA Motor Vehicle Dept. REGISTRATION EVENT/RENEWAL
08/02/2007 SHERMAN OAKS, CA Motor Vehicle Dept. TITLE

LOS ANGELES MERCE 300 1987 08/01/1997 10:34 a.m. P CE305823C

To have been in Canada it will have only needed daytime running lights installed to be legal pretty much.

The details and discrepancies would need to be cleared up, before anyone bid or bought, but I think it is easily worth $40,000 if no rust or wrecks, books and service records from new, if in turn key condition, and ALL AMG paperwork provided, and serviced in "time" intervals, not mileage intervals.

I would actually consider doing the unthinkable and actually buying this vehicle and getting rid of my coupe for a vehicle like this.

For sheer everyday drivability and enjoyment from 0-130 mph and beyond, I would actually offer that this is one of the best balanced and driving sedans ever built in the world.

I have never driven one, (the Hammer) but did hop in and drive a 1992 E500, which is about 75% as good, and got a ride in an AMG W124 E60, from AMG West near San Francisco, which is almost as good a car. It was a thrilling ride to say the least.

It's a car for a lifetime, too.

The durability and build quality and longevity are fantastic, - Even the E500 was a joint Porsche/Mercedes Benz effort, the cars each took about 55 days to build as they were shuttled back and forh between Stuttgart and Zuffenhausen, as Mercedes Benz and Porsche took turns woking on them.
For the Hammers, AMG, acknowledged as the best Mercedes Benz tuner of the era, then further massaged them to perfection.

The top claimed speed is not just political promises either.

Ask it to "go", and mash yur foot to the floor and hold, and it'll GO !!!

I wonder if it failed because they were testing as a "300E"? It sure is nice though...brings the M117 w124 idea back into my head...

the smog test in California

No. (the "P" ahead of the certificate number indicates it PASSED the smog test completely.)

It was a new exotic at the time and ultra rare, but built on the very common and well known 300E (W124) chassis.

The California smog test tech at the "BuggyHouse" simply therefore typed in the "300E" designation.

They did and still do make those mistakes like that, all the time.

The important thing in California smog tests is inputting the correct VIN# and for the customer, getting the vehicle to pass smog and NOT fail --- or fail so badly it is designated a "Gross Polluter".

Plus pass the VISUAL emissions control, test too.

The Smog test is ultra important in California, for every 1975+ autombile, un less the car passes, it CANNOT be on the road, registration is refused.

It can be a total unroadworthy junker, smashed, headlights no good, rustbucket, driveable total loss, a running wreck, but so long as it passes the smog check, and the windshield is not badly cracked, it's legal to drive on California roads

Didn't Tyler have a thread about the wagon and maybe even the coupe at Barrett-Jackson? Or maybe it was about Barrett-Jackson and it included those two cars?

That was quite a stable!

I think the owner of this AMG Hammer is probbly very reputable.

The ebay ad is reasonably forthcoming, he knows what he has, and the car in question is probably of Barrett-Jackson quality and rarity.

So it will not be sold cheap, "grinders" "lowballers" and cheapskates would be wasting their time on this one.

I made an offer on the Hammer Wagon that now lives in GA.

Didnt get it though.

Hammers are cool cars, but for me, if I get one, I want the Wagon.

Awww, I was going to ask you to buy this one with me as tenants in common.

I think you should buy the Hammer wagon then, off the guy, if you know where it now is. Let him earn a reasonable profit. (I would be happy to then drive the thing from Georgia out to you in Sacramento !!)

It is ultra rare, it's a wagon that you could truly keep and enjoy for the rest of your entire life.

So the intake just sucks air up from the engine compartment? Seems a little odd for such a performance machine.

Yes, he has it.

He's a friend of mine. I have visited him at the shop in Atlanta.

I bought my 2.65 LSD from an AMG donor euro coupe that Jono had.

Yeah, I met at El Presidente's gtg back in 2004 (?) in Buckhead.

That's when the guy in a BMW pulled a gun on some in the group- in the parking lot across from the coffee joint we were just at...

The Hammer collection the ebay seller had and is now almost done liquidating.

...as seen sometime in the not too distant past (Pic copied from the current ebay ad.)

Hammer iterations of wagon sedan and coupe. The Hammers were mostly sedans, and all were W124 AMG vehicles.

I wonder why he is selling?

If he only drove it 6 times a year for 16 years, pretty expensive per ride.

Too rich for me. I put it on my 'watch' list. I will want to know if it sells.
