Well ok a direct path including permanent residency and a cutsi at the front of the line for those requesting citizenship.

I am not sure how to read your post? Are you against, or for the law?
It is much better to have people with money coming here legally than OTHERS jumping the border fence.
Every single senator getting money (sponsors) who are wishing to buy influence or government contracts, so what is wrong with buying citizenship?
How about all the fake marriages just for Green Card? At least the people from this program bringing millions to the country.
If you read the article you should have notice that for 2009, over 4000 came to the US using this program. $500 K a person minimum is a healthy $2 billion....

No intelligence requirement, in fact the program is rife with scams, both ripping people off and ripping the government off getting people here that shouldn't be allowed.
Notice most of the ?? that handle this state "we do no due diligence" so they could have been throwing money at Madoff after he was convicted.

I think it is showing a low point of the US "Democracy", everythings for sale.

Citizenship, Politicians ... anything you want if you got the bucks.

If they can afford to put $500k into a real estate deal they have a few bucks, welcome to America!

About twenty years ago the Wall Street Journal did a story like this that told why so many small Motels were run by people named Patel.

First, Patel in India is like Smith or Jones in the US, and second the law then was if you showed up with $50,000 cash and bought a business you moved to the head of the line for entry.

If you bought a Motel you had a business and a place to live.

Although these people "buying" there citizenship is sleezy, at LEAST it is WITHIN the law. I have MUCH more respect for someone who follows a law, no matter how much of a loophole it might be, than those who DEFY our law and enter the counry illegally.

ILLEGAL immigration is one of the most flagrant violations of the law in today's world and there are way too many people perfectly willing to look the other way and let criminals run free and even in some cases reward them for their illegal behavior. It's quite disgusting.

True statement, I just think that "Buying" citizenship is wrong.

Funny just had a blip on the news where two 'Patel' brothers were busted for buying stolen goods and discarded / recalled merchandise and reselling it in their discount store.
They were going so far as to alter the expiration dates on baby formula and over the counter medications. Including recalled medications.

Regarding illegal immigration, whether or not to chase people around the desert is a simple cost/benefit decision. If law emforcement funds can be more effectively used elsewhere, the should be used elsewhere. Does the IRS chase everyone who owes them a few $100?

Who said they were highly intelligent and had money? It certainly appears they are using others money.

Agreed to a point. More effective would be use of the same funds to prosecute employers who knowingly hire illegals.

Or more effective than building a fence or using helicopters with high tech surveillance goodies, a few strands of barbed wire and a few signs in Spanish saying "Danger - Land Mines", with a few strategically placed mounds of dirt placed wihin visual range of the signs. That would tend to deter all but the most determined or desparate, until they finally figured out it was all fake - even then, there will be those who won't get the word and will still be deterred from crossing.

You don't have to make the border airtight, just difficult enough to sneak across, that coming across legally becomes the better option.

Actually, my point was that using resources for border security may not be the best use of those resources. Maybe that money should be used to enforce laws with more benefit to society?
