Made in USA or Made in Germany?

Talking about turntables again. So all things remaining equal, would you prefer:

VPI Industries Inc.

or

clearaudio electronic GmbH - Turntables, Tonearms, Cartridges, Power Generators, Amplifier, Accessories

that there are companies that still make turntables,that in itself says more of vinyl then anything else.i love the sound from an old album over a cd any day of the week.

I liked the fringe benefit of the large canvas that the album cover added to the mix. My last turntable had the strobe light and the little bumps around the turntable so you could put it at exactly correct speed of sharp or flat if you chose. As a guitar picker, I often like to play with a song to get the hang of it, and with the changing speed function, I could always find a capo placement or key to play along w/o the need to retune.

Not sure if that is available with CDs or MP3s. I've found some speed control programs but they're not what I wanted.

Personally I like Germany. No frills, solid parts. Very MB like. But VPI Industries is also clean, no frills, quality parts. Decisions decisions.

I used a tape player and controlled it with my toe.

Course they do man. Still the best damn sound reproduction evre invented!

I still prefer my Technics direct drive. I have a friend who loves the Linn LP12, and Linn stuff in general.

Is it my imagination or are songs downloaded on iTunes of lesser quality than the same songs on commercially produced CDs? Any differences there might be are probably undetectable on the poor-to-average audio systems that I have at home and in my car, but there seems to be something missing with the iTunes songs.

We have a lady who works in my wife's barn who likes to walk around with her pop country favorites playing on her iPhone. The songs themselves are mostly vile, but it is even worse they are played on that tinny little phone.

Yes, even with our aging hearing, MP3, AAC, WAV, and other digital formats are usually compressed to save bits/bytes. The closest you may get to analog is the higher bit rate recordings along with a good digital to analog converter (DAC).
