Some catching up to do...

Well Peachers it has been a while since you have seen me around.
Here is what has been happening around here.
First and saddest Rudy my awesome 300SDL has moved on. He is now serving the ex-wife and will be missed. She knew I loved that car more than her so she had to have it! Oh well...

Next the 1995 Volvo I had bought died an early death. Bad MAF sensor took out the computer and those OBD I Bosch units for the Volvo i6 are SCARCE and pricey

Then the Suburban was involved in a little altercation on I66 and needed a new grille and a trans cooler. While I was ordering parts I needed wheels.

So...

I ended up at the used car lot and bought a 1997 Jeep ZJ Grand Cherokee.
I have to say I am impressed with this $2000 purchase. Jasmine Jeep (Jenny's younger sister) has everything and it all works! AC, ABS,Selecttrac 4WD, all windows, all gauges, etc. It is nice to be able to just turn the key and GO! She has new tires, but they are street BF Goodrich and will be replaced with A/Ts to match the 'Burban She also gets 21-24mpg combined which is not bad for a 3100 pound square box on wheels! I love this Jeep because it is the last AMC/Jeep design and still has the awesome 4.0 liter AMC six. That engine has not changed all that much from Jenny the 1974 CJ5!

In other news, I have been working at a facility I cannot name (think five sided figure) and I have been unable to get on the internet to play here for a while.

Oh and as for the ex - she is NOT my girl as pictured as my avatar. She was wife #2 not #3 :-) #3 is the keeper as we were high school sweethearts who lost each other for almost 30 years! I am NOT letting her get away again!

Hope all is well with y'all and you are still burping up turkey!

Joe

Had a similiar Jeep GC afew years back and loved it. One of a few cars I regret selling. You know you have been around Mercedes benz too long when you by a different brand vechicle and are supprised everything works

Yep, you are right!
I am so used to old MB Diesels with the following um eccentricities:
Non working sunroofs
Non working cruise control
Non working AC
Windows that do not move
etc, etc

It is funny that the Jeep compares favorably with the Mercedes. I am most impressed with the fit and finish of this first gen GC. It is comparable to that in the SDL as far as the solid feeling you get from the doors and the lack of squeaks and rattles - and this is a 4x4!

I am digging the Selecttrac system too. It really works well as a full time 4wd system for wet roads and I cannot wait to get it in the snow - if we have any-
It is much more nimble than the Suburban more like a PT boat than an aircraft carrier
I miss my SDL, but I am in no hurry right now to replace it. Maybe next year a nice R107 will find it's way to my home...
