That is sort of like saying you can protect the public with speed limit signs. It may not be allowed, but it is possible, and the results can be a lot of damage...

I know who did this...
Agents of CONTROL and KAOS, under the guiding hand of Maxwell Smart, were the ones. When we had a software bug in our oil company systems that's who we always blamed. |

Some brilliant SOB's that came up with that one!
From the sound of it, it must have taken YEARS to develop a virus that advanced and that equipment-specific - just to get all the basic specs on the equipment it was supposed to target, the computer systems, the stolen digital certificates, etc - must have taken a considerable amount of time. I'd be willing to hazard a guess that work started on this approach back when it became clear beyond a doubt they were trying to develop nuclear weapons.

One of the Tom Clancy books had a plot point that involved software companies leaving "back doors" in their products that could be exploited by intelligence agencies. Makes you wonder. |

Considering that you spelled "on" with an "f", best keep reading.

Couple of things...
First it is not hard to disable the USB port on any computer, in fact some of the ones I have used have had their USB ports filled with EPOXY! No chance of plugging in anything there Second the OS was WINDOWS 7?!?!?! Um even I know that OS is just a bunch of security holes wrapped around a pretty interface. Oh, and isn't Iran banned from importing high tech things like WINDOWS 7 from the USA? If I was in the FBI I would be all over Mircosoft over exporting software to Iran. Back in the 1990's I had a relationship with a company called NetFortess. They made hardware encryption and security devices, basically an appliance you put on your network to encrypt everything and keep unwanted visitors out. This was so sophisticated that it was not allowed out of the USA. In fact when a certain famous director and partner in Dreamworks, put one in his carry on bag so he could connect it in his London office it set off a *****storm! That being said, how did Iran get hold of banned software?

There's nothing to wonder about. They do it, but not for that reason, then it is used for whatever is required. That's public knowledge.
