Painting the bathroom

I love my wife--I really do ( married 39 1/2 years).
BUT

She asked me to paint her bathroom. She thinks painting involves slopping some paint on the walls and ceiling period. I keep telling her that the prep is always the most important, and time-consuming part of any paint project.
I am a " lets enjoy the process kind of guy. She is " I want it done" gal.

Just removing all the stuff on the walls took over an hour--cabinets, light switch covers, towel bars, mirror etc. Then patching the nail pops and other drywall blemishes, and waiting for the stuff to dry before i sand.
Maybe I'll get paint on tonight.

Sorry, I just had to rant.

( Next she wants hardwood floors. So do I. It may be time to let her hire and pay for a professional--she won't be impatient with them. They'll even clean up everyday, at the end of the day. Why not? They get paid well for every hour they spend.)
OK, I'm done, now.

Small rooms are such a pain to paint too...I'd rather have a larger room with fewer obstacles to work around. I like eggshell finish in most rooms, but go with a satin in bathrooms and kitchens...

Last time my wife wanted something painted I told her to just do it herself...and she did. Looked OK, not great, but better than I might have feared.

I use the ultralightweight spackle that almost seems like styrofoam. It dries in 5 minutes or so. I also either use anti-mildew paint in bathrooms or mix in some anti-mildew additive. Best advice I ever got in regards to painting bathrooms was always paint the wall in front of the toilet very well. Much of the rest of the room can be second rate.

Is that like, if the hood of the car is clean and waxed, you think the rest of the car is, too?

If there's more than one male in the house, stainless steel metal sheeting from the adult's eye-height, onward down to the floor, surrounding the throne. Anything else is high-maintenance...

Oh...add a seperate floor drain adjacent to the toilet bowl with its own gas-trap...that way, all you have to do is spray down the surround and let it all drain towards the drain in the floor.

Too "industrial?" for the Mrs.?

I absolutely despise painting, that's why I pay other people to do it.

I'd strip the walls and call my painter, he would get a couple of his guys in and be out in a few hours while I'm at work.

this sounds just like my girlfriend.she wanted to add an outlet in the garage.says"just run the wires off that other outlet, jeeezus you make such a big deal out of nothing"well thats all fine and dandy but that outlet is 20 ft from where the new one goes and it's all behind 3/4 osb.then just last week i was out where i'm putting up my shop 42x60.now my yard has a slope to it.the front of the building is level with the ground but the back of the building will be 2 feet below the grade.so i've been out with my d2 cat cutting it down.i've got it within about 3-4 inchs.haven't checked with the transit yet but it should be close.well we just happened to leave the yard that way the other day and i swear to god you would have thought it was the end of the world"WHAT the hell are you doing cutting the yard up like that"well i tried to explain the ground had to be level but evidently it WAS level going up the grade of the yard so that should have been good enough.

I just redid my daughter's bedroom, new paint and new furniture. This room is weird to paint because it's only about 15 x 15 with about a 18 foot celling, it's in the center of the house where the vaulted celling is the highest. The 15 foot stepladder I was using would barely fit in the room. It's done now, everyone's happy.

I'm really luck my wife loves to paint cause I hate it.
We recently remodeled our kitchen and she painted the whole thing by herself. She also painted the living room anf foyer. I never lifted a brush!

If you were to perform sub-standard work during this little project...chances are the wife would not ask you to do anymore painting in the future. (unless of course you enjoy painting)

Not an option---my pride will not allow me to do poor work.
Stupid pride.

I have suffered from that same issue.
On a lighter note..what was your reward for risking life and limb?

Hey, can I borrow her for a couple of weeks? I could send you my wife, a couple of
dauschunds, a 12 pack of your favorite beverage and a couple of dozen tamales as collateral. 'Course, I would want the doxies and the tupperware I send the tamales in back.
