Cocaine Cowboys...

I just finished watching the 2nd one. Interesting movies, like Lord of War just with drugs.

Amazing how much money these guys were making, $10, $20, $80 million a month!

The smart ones were the guys who just shipped and distributed the drugs, they seemed to get away and make the most money without getting caught. I remember in the first one they were talking about buying Mercedes in the 80's with cash like they cost $5.

The first one was more about the kingpins, the guys who moved the drugs into the country and made billions in some cases doing it. The 2nd movie centers around the smaller street dealers and distributors. As well as Griselda Blanco.

Is this the same set of drug smuggling cowboys that was operating out of Denton, Texas?

Not sure in the movie they talked about mostly NY, Miami, CA, and Chicago. Along with South America of course.

There were a group of cowboys moving dope into Texas during the 80's and using a horse ranch in Denton, Texas, as a cover. They were actually using their horse trailers to move the stuff around.

Where they blew it was.... Well, first I need to tell you about a type of grifter that hangs out in bars in Texas.

Women will go to bars, order a beer and then sit in a corner by themselves with a hang-dog look on their face. When some guy comes over to hit on them they give him their life story and start to cry about how hard life is and if the guy could just see his way clear to help them out a little bit then everything would be OK.

So these drug smuggling cowboys would have their hearts touched by these women and drop about 10 grand on them when $50 is closer to the norm. The girls were shocked and knew something was up so a few of them went to the local lawmen and wanted to know what they could squeeze out of the cops for turning the guys in.

This used to be called working both sides of the street. Maybe it still is.

Things began to unravel pretty quick after that.

I guess this story puts the lie to the old French saying, 'All good things begin with a woman'.

They don't impress me, they interest me.

I absolutely love it how this guy screwed the system over so well. For awhile we wouldn't arrest him because we were using his air assets to supply our troops in Afghanistan. He isn't going to spend much time in jail, his friends in Russia will get him out.

Nicolas Cage sums it up so perfectly.

I found it fascinating how that segment of society operates. A lot of those guys are very smart and could have run legitimate business if they wanted to.

Legitimate businesses pay taxes.
I wonder how many drug dealers contribute to the campaign funds of politicians that oppose legalizing any drug use or sales?

That hardly compares to the traitors GHW Bush pardoned!
Since Bill isn't available why not tell us about it?
Jorge Cabrera was not pardoned was he?

Haha check out this documentary, they actually touched on that.

That tow truck trick was pretty brilliant.
