Lame Duck Session

- If a person has been unemployed for two years (99 weeks) . . . is extending unemployment benefits another 52 actually going to enhance that person's ability to obtain employment?

- Has either party explained how they intend to fund continuing the tax rate cuts, whether it's for all or excludes the $250K and over income folks?

- Have the dems explained how they will pay for the continuation of the stimulus credits for families?

- Isn't the goal of nuclear weapons verifications a good thing?

The unemployment deal sounds crazy unless you are on it and running out of time.

The next two items are typical CBS (Congressional Bull Stink)

As for the last item, we have been following START and so has Russia since the late 1980's when it was negotiated. I know some guys who are in Russia right now cutting up ICBMs

All three are really just good old regan era voodoo economics; throw more money into the economy and hope it stimulates enough growth to pay for itself. That is always the logic behind tax cuts.

I can not say that. I collected unemployment for 3 weeks. Not bad seeing I have had a job or been self employed since age of 12.

Thought I saw it somewhere that nearing the end of the benefits, people miraculously get a job. Coincidence? It might not enhance your ability to get a job but it sure puts you in the right direction to vote for me again.

Does it matter if they explain it? Sure, it would be nice but the devil is in the details so who knows what finally happens? As I asked before, is it worth anything if you take $1 off my eggs but tack on $1 to my meat, butter and milk?

The goal of nuclear weapons verification is good. Only question is how you would know each and every stash I have. Obviously the locations are not on Google.

Actually, I've been on unemployment for a year though that was in another country which I left at the end of that time.

I did the UC dance for a few weeks, twice, during my "career" since I starting working back in '75.

Interesting part? You didn't get a check unless you VERIFIED that you were looking for a job and they CONFIRMED it.

Now, I guess you sit a keyboard, ***** about the act itself, then just "mail it in" as the phrase goes.

Then, you ***** about the money not being in your account a micro-second after the 1st of the month.

IIRC, back in the 70s, UC was only a 9-week, or 13-week gig and you got only 40% ("teaser" rate?) of what you normally made. After that, they threw you the anchor and wished you good luck floating.

Times certainly are rough now, eh?

I've never drawn it, but my friends who have told me what they are getting. I couldn't afford to be on unemployment and my costs are very low.

Not sure how they would confirm it. I know that someone would "look" for a job but price himself out of the range or go for jobs he couldn't do so he could say he was looking.

IIRC, the form that I had to fill out required the name of the firm, person you met and date and time of contact along with phone # and extension, if appropriate.

Then, you sat in the office to WAIT to see if you met that week's quota. I had to have a minimum of 3/week to get my check. I ALWAYS went in on Thursday...otherwise, Friday you had a hard time finding anyone that qualified to look at you for job-interviews.

I might have collected a total of 5-6 weeks between the two times I was doing UC. It sucked and personally, it was embarrassing.

My understanding is that I have to go knock on several businesses and ask if they were hiring. When they aren't, that counts as 1 attempt and you document that.

Why is that? If you have 4 queries, wouldn't you have met the quota?

I didn't. I gave tuition. It was such a horrible experience teaching that I often wondered if male prostitution would have been better even if the girl was fat and ugly. Only reason I taught before that was to try use it to get into some girl's pants. Today, I don't even want to teach the wife. I find it much less stressful to just do it for her.
