That is a day that will be forever burned into my memory. It is the day I lost my mentor, my confidant, my biggest supporter and my best friend. My father was taken away all too early. He instilled in me my beliefs and my loves. He put up with my stubborn streak and never once said "I told you so" even when we had to push my first car purchase home from the seller's driveway! He was always there for me and I never knew how much I relied and depended on his guidance and wisdom until it was gone.
I am glad that he saw and knew my two kids, even if they do not remember him much or at all.
I am sorry he never saw my brother's wedding or his kids.
I am sorry he could not be here now and be the life of the room.

I feel that things I have done - two failed marriages for starters, might have been avoided with his advice, although if I had listened to him God only knows!
I do know that my present relationship is one he would have approved of as he knew her from way back. I can imagine the huge hug he would give her and her son welcoming them into the family.

We have moved on with life and things are different these days. My mother is no longer in the house but up in Wisconsin now. I am not even in the same state any longer, but I still feel the shock and pain today as if it just happened.

If you can, say hello to your parents today.
Bless them for being their and bless yourself for having them.

Words to live by!

I know what you're feeling, if even only second-hand, as my MIL passed away 12/10/04. I know how that date hits my wife every year.

Thanks, Swamp.

This day just gets me each year. I will be over it tomorrow. I just remember how he had just finished Christmas shopping with my mother and wrapping the presents for the kids after the funeral...

I'm not saying there's ever a good time of year, just the period between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day (in addition to Easter) was my MIL's time to shine. As a 1st gen Sicilian American, the Holidays were such an important thing to her and she had the desire to make sure everyone was happy and fed. Her absence this time of year is magnified. As I imagine is your father's.

You've got our thoughts and prayers, LUV.
