Well Rich, I am of mixed feelings on this.
One the one hand, Business in bed with government is not good for the consumer/ citizen. That relation removes the "risk" part of the "risk' / reward" that is essential to capitalism. So, let the chips fall where they may.

Secondly, I am amazed that few people seem to be able to make the connection that government should not be trusted. I wish that WikiLeaks would result in a great deal of skepticism, especially toward MMGW.

Thirdly, if the people involved with WikiLeaks committed any crimes, they need to be prosecuted--law breaking is law breaking. There are no heroes, here.

Start asking questions before they start questioning you.

Do you really think the government is behind MMGW ?

Guess all those scientists are just pawns in the conspiracy.

Ummm, yea they want a salary, that is why they try to do credible work.

Unless you really believe they are all pawns of our government.

You know there are scientists in other places than the US right ?

Or are you still hanging up on the idea that the US is the only country on the planet.

Its a common mistake with rampant nationalists.

RichC,

Have you ever had any experience with Consultants? I have worked for private engineers ( consultants) all my adult working life. If a client hires us to show that X is good and Y is bad, we will present the best possible case. We are whores, we'll say what you want to hear for a fee. Well, some of us are whores, some of us have some integrity that makes it harder to sell ourselves to some clients.

Do you really think scientists are all above working for a paycheck?

I don't know many scientists who would spend their careers working to support a theory that they didn't believe would eventually be substantiated. Most people don't want to end up on the wrong side of history. If you just want to make money, being a climate researcher isn't your best career choice.

BTW, as a consulting engineer I have found that not telling people what they want to hear in the short term is usually more profitable in the long term.

Or translating that to simple language; telling people what they want to hear is more profitable in the short term.

Consulting;
Make a site visit
Identify who is going to make the final decision
Determine what his pet theory is on the problem
Incorporate that theory into any recommendation
Always insure there is some one else to blame it on.
Never come up with a cure, always have a solution that "improves" things

Back on the topic;
It looks like Mr Wikkileaks will be out by the weekend.
