Ripple, by the Dead: No it's not about that brand of wine.
http://www.dead.net/song/ripple If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung Would you hear my voice come through the music? Would you hold it near, as it were your own? It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken Perhaps they're better left unsung I don't know, don't really care Let there be songs to fill the air (note 1) Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow Reach out your hand if your cup be empty If your cup is full may it be again Let it be known there is a fountain That was not made by the hands of man There is a road, no simple highway Between the dawn and the dark of night And if you go, no one may follow That path is for your steps alone Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow You who choose to lead must follow But if you fall, you fall alone If you should stand, then who's to guide you? If I knew the way, I would take you home |

1974 Eagles (the "real" band pre-Joe Walsh) "Already Gone" Well, I heard some people talkin' just the other day And they said you were gonna put me on a shelf But let me tell you I got some news for you And you'll soon find out it's true And then you'll have to eat your lunch all by yourself 'Cause I'm already gone And I'm feelin' strong I will sing this vict'ry song, woo, hoo, hoo, woo, hoo, hoo The letter that you wrote me made me stop and wonder why But I guess you felt like you had to set things right Just remember this, my girl, when you look up in the sky You can see the stars and still not see the light (that's right) And I'm already gone And I'm feelin' strong I will sing this vict'ry song, woo, hoo, hoo, woo, hoo,hoo Well I know it wasn't you who held me down Heaven knows it wasn't you who set me free So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains And we never even know we have the key But me, I'm already gone And I'm feelin' strong I will sing this vict'ry song 'Cause I'm already gone Yes, I'm already gone And I'm feelin' strong I will sing this vict'ry song 'Cause I'm already gone Yes, I'm already gone Already gone All right, nighty-night |

Definitely Garth Brooks, The Dance.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7MhgP5c5j8 Kind of sappy but I can relate on a bunch of levels. After that, just a bunch of good, rowdy beer drinking songs of all genres. No "Whip It"?

Sorry. I'm a bit more melancholy than y'all.
I want "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes. Watch Spock's memorial service in the Star Trek "Wrath of Khan" movie...you'll get the idea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9FAeXpuagU

I would prefer either "Lament for the Children" or "In Praise of Morag" for a nice solemn tune, but most people prefer "Amazing Grace". "The Rowan Tree" is a pleasant tune that works for many occasions. Personally, I want "MacFarlane's Gathering" followed by "The Train Journey North" to play me out.

I love that scene! I've always thought "Frank Sinatra - My Way" was appropriate for me. I'd also like to go out like Kirk Douglas and the end of The Vikings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWLKWwzjGe0&feature=related

my kids are convinced they're gonna set my stereo(maybe a few of you recall seeing pix of it a few years back here) up next to the gravesite, and blast Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb with the volume set at 11 as my casket is lowered.
