Can I just say that I don't know, jack squat about it, don't understand the details of signing up for it or how it even works.

And in that we see Obama's biggest failure and why it looks like he's going to be a one-termer. It should have been a simple straight up and down vote on whether or not we simply expand Medicare to everyone. Get it over with, take the results whatever they turned out to be, and get on to the economy. He could have won it too, given his sky-high approval ratings at the time, or just took his loss to use as a potent issue in the next election. Instead he let Congress run the show and of course, they tacked on every little favor or pork they could manage, compromised away the public option, and essentially delivered us something that average people cannot understand, and let it drag on for so long that the Right Wing Media machine was able to fill the air with mischaracterizations and lies right up to election day. Main point is that they brought an agent into the office today for us to sign up and i'm hearing things I don't like such as

"You need to sign up today in order to qualify for blah blah blah" and "The slightly more expensive plan is actually the better plan....."

I know the sales game and commission structures so I just don't want to get screwed. So I just forced them to wait until Monday for me to fill out my application while I go over the information packets that they gave me.

X2. I don't really understand why he did what he did. He had the political power to do as you describe but chose a course of action which had little chance of substantial success from the start.

A straight vote of "Up or Down" only is good if you get your way and you are SURE of it. Still, why would a congressperson vote his way? That is, unless they can get pork out of it. That is the drill. My vote for your pork. I don't know if he could live with it should it go "down". He knew that and the Congress knew that.

What were the Right Wing Media talking about, may I ask? I thought it was passed WITHOUT any Republican support or very little so where did the pork come from? Got the stones to answer that one?

You DO have the right to ask them to explain it as a "Before" and "After" thing.

It's like they say to lawyers. You only ask a question if you KNOW the answer. If you ask the question and you get an answer you DON'T like, what then? This way whether it is "win, lose or draw" (you the suckers not the Congresspeople), he gets to say "I won something".

Yes but I feel that I need to understand the context better before I start shooting questions at them. I feel like I'm buying a machine that shoots lasers....IE I don't know the first thing about it.

(Someone odd considering that probably half of my family work for insurance companies in one way or another)

Have them show you the coverage you have now vs what they are proposing, item for item. When the wife's company did that recently, that is exactly what I did. Same thing I did previously when it was under my name.

To what end? We have two sets of pigs at the trough and you think making a 3rd out of that herd will help? How? People are going to be people. I don't care if you get a group from the jungles but sooner or later, it will be 3 smaller groups at the trough instead of 2 larger groups. Either way, you are having pigs at the trough.

The overly-simplified gist is that the lower your copay per visit or prescription, the higher your premium would be. The more flexibility to visit a specialist, without getting a referral first, the higher the premium. The more freedom you want to go outside of the plan's network of doctors, the higher the premium.

If I were a young, healthy, single guy who was good at putting money away, I would go for the least expensive plan with whatever copay I thought I could reasonably afford if something came up. I'd choose a high prescription copay, high office visit copay and the least flexibility to choose. Since I'm none of the aformentioned, and our company pays 80% of the premium for all employees, my plan works out better for me as a 40 yo, with 4 kids who bring home lots of stuff from school, a couple of whom take regular medications, all of whom came via C-section to a wife with the propensity to have ankle surgeries.

What insurance company are they going with?
