Google *Robert M. Gates*..current C.I.A. director, of 'Iran-Contra' fame.

According to Micheal Scheuer, head of the C.I.A's first bin Laden unit, from 1980-1989, about $600 million U.S. was passed thru bin Ladens charity fronts.
Most of it goes through the charity front Maktab al- Khidmant, also known as Al-Kifah.
The money generally comes from donor's in Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf, and is used to arm and supply the mujaheddin Fighting in Afghanistan.
Mohammed Yousaf, a high ranking ISI official, will later say, "It was largely Arab money that saved the system",since so much of the aid given by the C.I.A. and Saudi Arabia was siphoned away before it got to Afghnistan. "By this I mean cash from rich individual's or private organisations in the Arab world, not Saudi Government funds. Without those extra millions the flow of arms getting to the mujaheddin would have been cut to a trickle"
Future C.I.A. directer Robert M. Gates will later claim that in 1985 and 1986, the C.I.A. became aware of Arabs assisting and fighting with the Afghan mujaheddin, and the C.I.A. "examined ways to increase participation, perhaps in the form of some sort of 'international brigade', but nothing came of it".

However, a C.I.A official involved in the Afghan War will later claim that the C.I.A. directly funded (MAK).

Sounds to me like Mr. Gates is dirty now, just as he has always been throughout his career.

Everybody knows, that CIA and Mossad are stifling around in most any part of the globe for the sole purpose of creating instability.

'Blunt', is what we need more of. Americans really need to take a hard look at the 'Enemy-within'.

Every time we pht gas in our cars we arw funding them. I would think that alone would be enough encouragement to get off of oil. Until a real effort is made to cut that tie, the war on terror is just empty words as far as I'm concerned.

In a global economy every commodity is connected to every other somehow. In WWII the Navy used Zeiss binoculars manufactured by the Germans. You can connect the dots in any direction if you stretch far enough, so saying that filling a car is funding terrorism is a bit out there. If you eat Swiss chocolate, you have also helped Swiss banks which helped the Nazis, does that make you a collaborator?

In the world today, whoever you fund now will be the enemy in 20 years. Saddam was out buddy as long as he was fighting Iran. The Shah was our buddy for YEARS.

Hezbollah remains the proxy force for the Iranians and uses funds from the sale of its petroleum to not only arm and equip terrorists in Lebanon and Palestine, but also in Pakistan, Somalia, Phillipines and Thailand.
In these places the "Enemy of my enemy is my freind. For that reason, for the Wahabi,if you are not Sunni, you still have no right to live in the Califate they seek to establish. Yet they recognise that until they get that califate in place, they will have to wait cleaning up all those 'unbelievers' . Hence, the Shia terrorists tend to be funded and tolerated- for now.

The trouble with that philosophy is this. Oil taints everything or just about everything these days. So, it isn't only gas. It is everything. Even if you ignore the fact that only 20% of our oil comes from the ME, we still have to recognize the fact that oil is essential to just about everything from food to medicine. So lets buy all our stuff from China. Whoops. Still tainted with oil. So how do you cut the tie? Without shooting yourself in the foot first and go back to the stone age?

Well, one way is to make sure that we only use oil that we can produce. Fair enough. However that oil that came only from US soil also affects the price of oil in the world. Just because your dollar isn't physically going to the ME doesn't mean anything. In theory it is easier said than done.
