These parties are paid for by ticket sales in Texas and in Oklahoma. There are also sponsors that buy up a table or two.

A friend of mine used to go to these. He throws some real parties of his own and thought that for what the tickets cost he got a pretty good deal. He just went for the party because he was someone who could go to Austin and knock on George's door when George was the Gov.

As far as using taxpayer money for these then I agree they should be cut back.

If a state gets out of debt it would be a good excuse to throw a party, though.

No one threw me a party when I got a new job, and I damn sure don't throw my new employees a party when I give them one.
