Got this keyring from a friend, mentioned to me its quite old, seems to be real silver. Anyone know what year it might be from. Any other information is greatly appreciated.

The only clue I have on a possible age would be the ring itself. My grandmother used to "collect" keyrings and "chochkie" stuff like that. The "ring" portion of that unit looks nice and solid...not like pressed-tin. My guess (uneducated) would be the early 60s, very late 50s...IF that far back.

The "BENZ" piece has a "20s-ish look" to it...sorta' like old Worlds' Fair Posters style...but I'd be surprised if that were the case.

Interesting and unique in its own right,

But I'd be pretty astonished if it is factory authorized.

I have never never in my life seen or heard of ANTHING from the factory - be it a car a part , accessory or even clothes from the dealer botique since 1945 that did not have "Mercdes Benz" on it. In fact not ever.

this key ring has "Mercedes" on one side and "Benz" on the other.

It is exactly the kind of question that begs to be answered in your letter to the editor of the "STAR" magazine, the glossy one put out by MBCA - The organ of the Mercedes Benz Club of America

I have the feeling that it is an unauthorized keychain manufactured to sell to places that resell auto accessories. The side that says; BENZ is just funky, in the manner it is lettered, to me. The 3-pointed star side, looks to be more attention paid to authenticness, if you will. I am with pre 1960 somewhere as a guess. How far back, I dunno. But I do not think it is a Daimler-Benz factory approved artwork/creation - I may be totally incorrect in my hunch.

Hard to put an exact date on those, but those are pre WWI logos. Those are from when they were 2 separate companies... The Benz piece is just before 1910, and the Mercedes piece is just post 1910.

Logo with laurels used on Benz & Cie automobiles after 1909

Trademark: Three-pointed star of 1909 (upper left). Trademark of Benz & Cie. of 1909 (upper right). Three-pointed star in the circle of 1916 (middle left). The new trademark of the merger of DMG and Benz Cie. in 1926 (middle right). The actual three-pointed star (below)

Well the one I have looks to be real silver because there is intriquette patterm on the hook thing and it looks a bit tarnished.

The one posted buy eclipse is older and higher quality than the cheap one at the dealer.
The star appears to be a separate piece applied over the base. The chain and ring are an older style. I like his but would not even consider the newer knockoff.

Agreed.

I'd say that dealer listings are a modern reproduction of a key chain that used to be made. I'd take a random guess that it's 50's vintage (Right as Mercedes was getting back into the swing of things)
