Relieved of Command

Profound Lack of Good Judgment

Capt. Honors, whom the Navy didn't make available and who hasn't commented on the matter, has been reassigned to an administrative position at Fleet Forces, based in Norfolk, Va. Being relieved of command is typically an action that will end an officer's military career.

Yes indeed - he'll be forced into retirement soon.

MTI - I see you are now in Arizona - quite a change from Oahu.

Rules changed, sailor didn't. Bye-bye sailor.

Sounds like the dude needed to concentrate more on commanding that carrier than being a movie producer. That much free-time???

funny films that boost morale on long deployments are a naval tradition, as of the last few decades. One part of command is to help insure good morale. seems like he hit the third rail along the way, but the issue of making a funny film was never at question. At the time, also that "dude", if one can call a man who was the executive officer, second in command, of Enterprise a dude. Takes a lifetime of service to get to O5 and then to O6, Captain, as he was promoted to AFTER the film was made and shown, seems like someone had a bone to pck with CAPT Honors, and knew that this was the perfect environment to do so. An awful lot of the crew went to bat for him, thought he was a great commander. But, when the media gets hold of something now days, top brass fold like a house of cards.....

Sounds like someone who had an issue with him brought the videos to the surface and ended his career with them. Shame he was probably a good commander.

Probably. Even with modern ships it takes a long time to cross an ocean, especially at peacetime deployment speeds. Gotta do something to pass the time.

I do how like this video had the droning engine sound from "Airplane" And oddly enough I just learned that E2 Hawkeyes have sunroofs :D

Not US but this one is probably my favorite

Ridden dirty doing a convoy.

Talk about politically incorrect -- cross the equator on a small naval vessel.

Exactly.

OTOH, if you think those videos were bad, guess it's a good thing no one was allowed to record "halfway night" festivities on board one of the boomer boats back in the day - if nothing else, Hugh Hefner would have been beaming with pride at all the centerfolds pasted around the messdeck walls.

Yeah I was waiting for someone to mention that....I remember a news report from some years ago stating that they were going to ban the ceremony...guess it didn't happen

Hatterasguy 01-04-2011 10:59 PM

You can't ban tradition, screw these PC wusses. They can't handle the heat so they try to turn it down for everyone else, lame.

It will if ever a decent war starts.
Too many top brass desk jockeys with nothing to do in peace time, PC keeps them occupied.

I doubt anyone cares until it goes public; then it's an embarrassment and someone has to get smacked.
