Interesting, but it will never survive a court challenge without a constitutional amendment. This is grandstanding for the 2012 election, they're just trying to make immigration a national issue.

The real reason for the introduction of this bill is to move the focus of the public from more important issues such as the economy and employment. |

They may have played this hand too early, it's a long time until the election.

Their big test won't come until they have to do the next budget for 2012 in the fall. That is where alot of good can be done in many ways.

Gosh, just a few days ago the GOP was so in love with the Constitution that they caused it to be read aloud in the House chamber. That was then, this is now, I suppose. They're a bunch of un-American bastards, if you ask me.

Yeah reading our constitution, focusing on enforcing the laws, and trying to keep our borders intact so non americans stop entering illegally and not paying for the roads they use; the fire protection they enjoy; the law enforcement and court system; the school system their children attend; the food stamps they receive; the housing asst they get- taxing our way over taxed system and forcing us deeper in debt is downright unamerican. Bastards they are- trying to represent those that elected them. They are supposed to do what is best for us in their own minds- never mind what we the people have told them.

Actually I think maybe I agree with them on this one. Why should a person be able to come in illegally and give birth and that baby be an american citizen?
I agree to a large degree it is grandstanding to avoid other issues though.

That's a valid point, you should support a constitutional amendment that changes the criteria for citizenship if that's what you think needs to be done. Similarly, if you don't want guns around you should support changing the second amendment. We don't get to ignore the constitution whenever it's convenient or benefits a group of people who are out of favor at the moment.

Also agreed that anything other than a constitutional amendement is nothing but grandstanding, a la the HC repeal vote - no chance in hades it'll happen, just playing to the base.

That's my point. These guys need to read the 14th Amendment.

The short answer is that they should be able to do that because that is exactly what the Constitution says. A better answer, IMHO, is that many of these children are exactly the type of people we should invite with open arms. And I hope that I would be willing to do the same for my children if I thought it would make a better life for them.
