Have you taken your kids to Disney?

At what age would you suggest a visit there? Some of our friends have visited there multiple times with their children as young as 2 years old. My personal belief is that 2 is too young.

I've personally only visited once....back before Space Mountain was built.

Any thoughts?

My kids are 4 years apart, so that is a "problem." We took them the DW (FL) when they were about 8 and 4, the older one had a good time but the younger one doesn't really remember it. I happened to be in CA a few years ago, so I had them visit for the weekend and go to DL when they were about 13 and 17. They both thought it was cool, but they were really too old for most or the attractions in the "magic kingdom." I would say the 6-12 range is probably best (elementary through middle school).

Endurance can be an issue, there's a lot of stroller pushing in crowds and lines . . . oh, do you mean the kids?

Never, and never will. My kid isn't a Disney kid. Dogsledding is way more fun for him.

X2. Amusement parks are for boring people. I've always hated organized activities such as amusement parks. Boring brainless activities in my opinion.

Take the kids and do something not based on nonsense or fantasy. Take them to the Keys and teach them how to scuba dive. That is a real eyeopener/adventure for little and big kids alike.

My kids did those things too. Nothing wrong with hitting the tourist stuff if it's not the only thing you do. Young kids do get a kick out of it, and they will think it's lame soon enough anyway.

I haven't yet but only because we've always ended up having one that was too young. Now that we've decommissioned the baby making parts we might finally get around to it. My youngest is 4 this year but I'm thinking we'll probably wait another year or two so that he'll be old enough to appreciate it a bit more and have a bit more endurance. My oldest will be 14-15 by then but I think he'd still enjoy it. We generally don't do touristy so it'll be something different for them. And they do offer perks to families with a person with special needs so we'll be taking advantage of that!

I agree with Craig. It's part of a balanced diet. It's not something they'll be doing often, maybe only once as a family, but I'm excited by the prospect of finally bringing them. I know the youngest two will be beside themselves.

OTOH-my brother, whose in-laws live outside of Orlando and whose FIL works at a Disney golf course, takes his kids every year when they go down to visit (now 8, 4 and 2). His kids definitely don't appreciate it like they should. It's a given.

Not sure what this stuff is about "they will grow out of it" is all about. I'm 44 and my wife is 46 and we still enjoy going every now and then. I love the park. For me it is just fun. Too damn expensive but it is fun.

I do other things as well but Disney is not just for kids.

Disney is mind numbing ****e, designed to take your money, just like all amusement parks. I took my boys to state parks, wilderness areas and museums. Now that they have grown up they have a clear view of reality and are not 18 and 20 year old children.

It's good for 6-12 year olds, and it's good for adults. For 13-18 year olds; not so much. It is a tad expensive.

The Mrs. and I went there on our honeymoon and had a great time. Each of us had only been there once before so it was pretty exciting for us. Stayed in the Wilderness Lodge and had a room overlooking the lake. I am looking forward to going again. I still thoroughly enjoy going on rides.

I do have to start saving now if we're going in a couple years, though.
