I need a good coffee thermos

My tiny one kinda sucks. I need one that'll keep it hot a lot longer than 4 hours.

Cool, thanks.

And oh, it needs to work at -10F too. Is that too much to ask?

I bought this one:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Thermos-Compact-Bottle-Stainless-Steel/14526450

I put boiling soup in it in the morning and it's still too hot to eat at lunch time.

I don't know about -10, but I've got a 20yo Thermos (the ubiquitous green hammer finish with the plastic screw-on coffee cup) that I used to take sledding up in VT. If I preheated it with boiling water, it would keep soup hot through the 2 hr ride up and 4-5 hours of riding until we took a break for lunch.

I'm pretty sure they still make the model. I'd imagine with newer technology more modern ones might have better heat holding ability although there are far fewer replaceable parts.

They do...I had to replace my 25 year old model.

They still make it and you can even get replacement parts. Mine's all battered to hell but has a new gasketed stopper and cup. My son had it in the trunk of the 240D and took it out and set it on the ground behind the back wheel and forgot it. Then he backed over it. It cracked the cup but the thermos was unharmed. Got a new cup at walmart, and the kid his own thermos.
Amazon has the classic 1.1qt.. bottle for 24 bucks. It'll last a lifetime.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between THERMOS and THERMOS NISSAN?

Supposedly, it was a merger but what I am unclear of is whether there is a Thermos and the Thermos Nissan is an upper line.

On THIS page they list 5 brands

Thermos
Thermos Nissan
Element 5
Raya
Foogo

Don't get fooled into buying a larger model, thinking it would be better. Yes, it will hold more, but won't hold heat as well as the smaller models.

Some think that size matters.

No surprise that our...frugality...might apply to food and beverage storage as well.

Thermos Snuggie

I made a Thermos Snuggie out of an old Survival Tarp and some Super Thinsulite that keeps the sucker hot and toasty for 8 to 10 hours. My thermos is at least 25 years old.

New cap and gasket is also the key to keeping things hot.

Keep it in a bag not on a surface that will transmit the cold to the Thermos body.

It was 10 degrees the other night and my Coop had a Steam Line break and I am the poor SOB on weekend duty. I spent 4 hours with the emergency crew digging out and exposing the line and prepping for the plumbing crew to fix at daylight. When they built the place they didn't install Thrust Blocks at the 45 and 90 connections so every year we lose 1 or 2.

When I opened up my Thermos to share the love, the coffee/bushmills mix was as hot as when I made it at 12:30 AM.

The pipe fitting was changed by 8AM and we placed 1/2 CY of Quickcrete and 2 U rebars as a Thrust Block and the heat was back on by 9:30AM.

Depends on where your working. My uncle is a delivery driver, and the box truck he drive gets freezing cold... He swears by his plug in one.

I think Nissan was a separate brand bought out by Thermos, but I'm not positive about that. I bought a Thermos Nissan several years ago and it worked great - kept hot liquids piping hot for about 6 hours or so. Portable, durable, drop-resistant, leakproof. Only thing that I didn't like about it was the plastic sipping top absorbed the coffee flavor so I couldn't really use the thermos for tea. This is the one I got:

http://www.amazon.com/Thermos-Nissan-12-Ounce-Stainless-Steel-Tumbler/dp/B00004S1CV/ref=pd_bxgy_k_img_c

I'd recommend a Nissan, they have different models that are rated for different amounts of time so pay attention to the specs.

I bought the Stanley combo pack, thermos and travel mug at Walmart for roughly $20.
I haven't tested it under the conditions you described but it did do well outside for an hour at 30 degrees or so.

As someone mentioned before, preheating it with hot water helps a lot.
