tatoos and piercings; love or hate them?

I have none but they seem to be in great fashion these days. There was a time when it was only bikers, sailors and a few others that had them, now it's part of a social statement.
I don't know about anyone else but I find lip rings rather distracting while trying to talk to someone. I mean how can you not notice when the guy looks like he fell face first into a tackle box? People can do what they want but it all seems a bit strange to me. The jewerly you can remove; the tats you can't easily, if at all. It's not makeup...

I love them so long as they are well done and tastefully done. A random tattoo here and there is not very attractive but a large artistic piece of body art is just awesome. I've been saving to tattoo almost half my body for years, looks like I can finally get started this year. I've had many a piercing too but having to work in a corporation isn't too good for that.

I remember looking at a vendor's scrapbook at a biker event. My friend looked at a picture of a guy with so many genital piercings, he said "he must sound like a gypsy walking down the street"!

Me? I'm clean.

How do these things react to airport metal detectors? Does gold trip them? Silver? If you have piercings below the equator and the alarm goes off, what then?

Tats don't bother me a bit. I may even get one or two some day, in a spot easily hidden for business purposes. My sister has a bunch of visible ones (several tributes to her late fiance, a couple of her own design). In her artsy/fartsy circles it's more about expression than "rebelling" or standing out since it's the odd friend of hers that doesn't have at least one.

Facial piercings don't do it for me and while ear piercings aren't my style, I'm not opposed to them.

To each his/her own.

tats look good on young women...sometimes very sexy. that being said, I wonder what they will look like when the 20 something is 50 something..

I have a couple, left over from the military days; cant be seen easily.

body piercings? depends on the person. Some of the stuff I see is pretty over the top. OTOH, I once had a girlfriend that, ah, never mind..........

I think they look like crap. Never understood why people want to deface themselves like that. But ultimately - whatever. To each their own.

I met a young Marine last year who told me that there was a recent AlMar that banned anyone with tattoos from becoming a Marine officer. I said well, there's always Army OCS. He said no way he'd put on another uniform when he takes off his Marine uniform. Once a Marine..

Btw, he got his tattoos at a local town parlor, not Okinawa or the PI or some place with a story.

I like the concept of tattoos, but I don't think I would be willing to live with something that permanent on me.

Thinking back eight years ago today, what was popular to me?

Pokemon...

I'm never going to get a tattoo.

A few years back, I went to a presentation given by a nurse in the student health department at a large university. He (the nurse) had photos of do-it-yourself tattoos and piercings that went bad. Some of the most disgusting photos you will ever see. The home-made genital piercings that got infected were especially nice. I told him that he should take his show on the road. He could hire himself out to parents of teenagers who insist on getting tats or piercings.

No strong feelings one way or the other. Don't think I'd get a tongue piercing after walking by a shop on Yonge St. in Toronto that was doing a tongue piercing to a young woman right in the front window. Can't imagine that's very good for business.
