Down here its going to be all ice and then a huge amount of rain. Pretty nasty, but better than the other way around. The only reason it is really making news is because of the sheer amount of area covered by the thing (two low pressure systems combining, one northern and one tropical)

I disagree. I'd rather have snow than ice. Look at the DC area, last week. It was the rain turned ice, that caused problems. I can drive in snow. Ice, it gets dicey. Also, its the ice storms that knock down the power lines. I remember being in Frankfurt Germany in the late 70's. A thin sheet of ice shut that city down. It was less than an 1/8 inch thick.
We are suppose to get ice here, then snow. Also 30 mph winds. I hope to have the Jeep Cherokee road worthy tonight.

Flooding and snow fall . . . common denominator would be more water in the atmosphere and the air/ocean current that drive that moisture.

We've got 4-8" forecast for here Tue. into Wed. and then Big Something Wed. into Thu. Quite frankly I'd welcome an ice storm as I'm tired of pushing snow and don't have anywhere else to put it. At this point I'd be very content to be iced in and not have to go anywhere.

Packer fans that go to the game this weekend may have to prepare against heat stroke.

We had quite a bit of rain and then the temps took a nose dive (19 right now) so it's a sheet of ice. The wife got off of work (Hospice nurse) this am and it took her 1.5 hrs to drive about 20 miles. She said she lost traction several times at 20 mph. I hope they do not call her in tonight.

Well some snow is going to materalise here. I am a little tired personally of the weather services trying to make 30cm or 12 inches of potential snowfall sound like a disaster.

Usually in the last few years we land up with far less than originally forcast. Although this one may prove a little interesting as our snow plow guy is in the carribean until the weekend.
