Reduce mortgage tax deductions, possibly cap it at $5K/year.
Make capitol gains taxes progressive.
Reduce the estate tax exclusion to $500K

Where is the "compromise"?
All I see is more "take from the rich".
So do you see the problem as too little revenue?
I see it mostly as too much spending. Spending must be cut. After that we can talk about increased revenue.

Take a look at how the top tax rate has been cut consistently for the past
50+ years before you decide that the rich have it so bad now. Never have
so few had so much.

Military spending is irrationally high.

How about if President Obama were to implement the changes that his own team, charged to fix the spending/deficit/debt problem, sent him? As far as I can tell he hasn't read the damned thing.

No leadership whatsoever.

He's done nothing, zero, zip, nada to reduce any government spending.

He needs to go.

He isn't the WI governor who has the "Frankenstein Veto". All he can do is say "No" or "Yes" to the ENTIRE spending thing. It is your legislators that are more responsible for it. They are the ones who put the devils in the details. Look at your statements. It is implying that he has full control. He can propose anything he wants but lets be frank about it. It is little more than a "Mother, may I" list.

My statement is 100% accurate.

However, I neglected to add he is INCREASING spending.

Technically, yes. It is 100% accurate. Neither has my dog and that is also 100% accurate. Like I said, what can you expect him to do? How do you think the spending bills get passed? Besides as a hostage situation?

Both those statements may be true, but I still see nothing of a compromise from you---your list reads like DNC talking points.
If you read back to my original post on page one of this thread, I listed cuts everywhere, including military.

Then accurate it is.

Should probably also point out that, since government provides safety net programs, when there are more poor and unemployed people, the cost of those programs will go up. So, when the economy sucks, government is set up to automatically spend more money.

Obviously, that's not the only reason our deficit is bigger.

True, but so is this--
You get less of whatever you tax, and more of whatever you subsidize.

Hell of a way to run the railroad.

Mortgage interest deduction could be on the table. It's interesting that historically we created the incentive for home ownership, but seemingly ignore renters.
