Local MBCA is having their "poker run" tomorrow . . . Ferrari Club is meeting up at Scottsdale 101 center . . . some forecasters mentioned small hail . . . that could really be a disaster.

Yesterday I had to drive across town to get some parts from FPS (the local euro only parts house) what should have taken 30 minuets took me over an hour going 40-45 on the freeway. I was hoping to escape this storm when going to AZ.

How many miles on your W126 300SD turbo now?

Isn't it waaaay over 350,000 by now?

I really love that car of yours, ever since the day I first saw it and met you back at the Sacramento back in November 2006, my very first Mercedes Benz meet up.

I have always loved those dual exhausts you fashioned from steel cyclone fence posts. They are amazing and in keeping with wonderful American ingenuity.

It is a wonderful old car, and I loved driving it that day when we swapped for a while. So different and yet so much the same as my coupe...NOTHING quite like a W126 Mercedes Benz. Cars to last till eternity, if well taken care of.

So my car was a topic of conversation though-out the family! Since the car was my grandmothers many of the family had seen it before, most thought it had become a soup can long ago... but then it shows up and the family reunion!

We got together to celebrate my Great-Uncle Al's 90th birthday. People came from as far away as Ireland for the party. It was a fantastic weekend.

I came to the party and was greeted by my (second cousin... I think, I call him uncle) Uncle Fred, and his partner Bob from Philadelphia, the first question I get is "did you really drive an old Benz from California?" "Yep" I tell them... Thats when I learn that this disease I have for Mercedes is genetic. They have 4 123s back in Philly. 2 240Ds, 1 300D, and 1 300TD. Fred tells me the 300d is named "the snow plow" it goes out in the winter and is pretty rusty, but the 300TD is pretty much a baby, with only 36k on the clock. she only sees the sunny weather!

I chatted with them for a long while and have come to the conclusion that I must go to Philly soon!!!!

Later after talking to a hand full of people about rebuilding the car and getting it ready for the trip, my grandma comes up to me and asks me to take Uncle Al out to see the car. I was a little shocked, I mean, hes 90yo, hes having a birthday bash with over 60 guests and he wants to walk out side and see my car!!!

I took him out there and he was all complements. He said he remembered my grandma getting the car and how much she loved it, and how everyone was really proud that it didn't get destroyed over the years. I truly felt honored at this point. To me, its just a car... a nice car... but nothing special, but to have the whole family remember it from so many years ago. I suppose it really is a special car.

Jim, you and I need to meet up, My car looks so much cleaner then in those pics. Sadly the dual exhaust is gone, but in its place is 3", and the side cladding looks as is should now.

This pic is from before the engine-transmission swap, and the H&R springs. So, she looks even better then in this pic.

The exhaust is more like this now.

Cars bought new especially, then kept in-the-family are sentimental to all of us. That's one reason why I may hang on to this '99 300 ETD. Bought new spending it's entire life garaged so far in Texas, no rust. I've got scores of nieces and nephews that may appreciate it someday - who knows.

Unless something drastic happened, I wouldn't sell that SD family heirloom, as far as I'm concerned, Nik!

Growing up, our family '69 220D, and (2) 240Ds bought new would all be rust-buckets living in Omaha, NE. even though all were bought new. Not worth keeping when rusting through.
