Question Is there a better time than another to sell your car?

Just wondering, 'cause I'm getting bit by the new car bug. My VW is in excellent shape, gets great fuel mileage and is paid for in full.

But it's also got just over 95,000 miles on it. Time to sell before it hits 100,000 and the presumed drop in value of having a "high mileage car"?

Or should I just keep it for a couple more years and then sell.

Any thoughts?

The worst time to sell your car is when you NEED to sell it. If your new purchase can't be comfortably done without the sale of your current car, and you can't overcome the notion that you need to buy soon, you'll end up selling your car for less than it's worth or worse, you'll trade it in and really get stung.

Keep it as long as you are not putting money in it. I have a 1999 corrolla with 93,000 and have not put more than brakes and tires. Still has the original battery. No car payment and easy on gas. I paid cash for my 2005 Grand caravan SXT new and it still owes me a few more years. It has 87,000. No real problems either. You will miss your money and the old trouble free car.

I think you can put it on the market now. It lets you feel out the market a bit. You don't have to sell.

I only sell when I have to, I plan on keeping my truck until the rust gets it since its a work truck. Probably 10-15 more years until that.

Its a personal financial decision; now is a good time to sell though since used cars are high and you will get more in trade.

Check out TDI club if you already haven't. I remember reading somewhere the 2010/2011 TDI's lost a few mpg's over their counterparts, if that is a concern of yours.

If its a diesel, then I'd wait a month, hoping the gas prices stay high or go higher. That usually raises the prices on car that get good mpg.
Othe vehicles, like 4wd then in the fall or early winter. Pickups and convertables, spring and summer.

the biggest hit a car takes is driving off the lot, 90 to 100 on a diesel will make minimal difference. now if you hate the car thats a whole other thing
