I think it is weird that some people act like this is something new. It has been like this in some of these areas for about 600 or 800 years.

There is a reason these regions have always been called 'lawless'. The people that live there do not take kindly to outsiders. The British found this out but they learned to deal with it.

The only thing that strikes me as odd about any of this is the silence from the greater Muslim world. It would be nice if someone somewhere could give a reason for this silence. I don't understand the behavior, either, but then their ways are not our ways.

It would not even have to be a good reason. Just anything would do.

I doesn't. Because there are so few of these "unrepresentative" nutjobs, or so we are constantly informed. I would expect a much more vigorous condemnation of the "lunatic fringe" from the "vast majority" of the "peaceful" religion. Especially from countries like the US, and areas of Europe where they would, you might reaonably expect, have much less to fear from the whackjobs. Unless of course everything weve been told by politically correct idiots about the unrepresentativeness of the lunatic fringe is bs and it is in fact an inherent part of the religion..

Perhaps if you started condemning that as well, you'd have a moral leg to stand on, otherwise, you are just complaining about one side's penchant for murder while you stand mute over our own side's same penchant for unreasonable, illegal and immoral acts of mass murder, reminds me of something Jesus said about having a log in your eye while you complain about a splinter in the other guy's eye....
