ONE OWNER 82 YRS.

Mr Allen Swift of Springfield, MA. received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Piccadilly P1 Roadster from his father, brand new, as a graduation gift in 1928.

He drove it for 82 years up until his death last year ... at the age of 102 !!!

He was the oldest living owner of a car from new.

It has 170,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition.

He donated it to a Springfield museum after his death.

I'll bet Mr. Smith had some other interesting stories to tell. For one thing, New Englanders tend to be interesting people, in my experience. I'll bet a New Englander who got a brand new Rolls for a graduation present and then lived to be 102 saw and did a thing or two in his life.

My personal touchstone to history was my wife's step grand dad. He lived to be 105, and his mind was still sharp when he died. After graduating from college he interviewed with Thomas A. Edison, and always maintained that the exam that TAE gave interviewees was the toughest he ever took. He was hired, and a little while later, Mr Edison inquired into his health--Do you smoke? Do you have any TB in your family?....
Turns out that TAE selected him to open to Denver office, and wanted to be sure he could work at that elevation.
A few years before he died, one of his nieces was visiting his apartment, and commented on the "old Victrola" standing over in the corner. She quickly learned the differences between a "Victrola" and an "Edison". The passion still lived even after all the years.
