Thumbs up As well we should be....

Some interesting countries that rate up near the top there...

U.S. most armed country with 90 guns per 100 people

Registered weapons or..? No way they can track them all.

I would guess Somalia or other country in constant turmoil would have the most. I bet the figure from Iraq only includes the ones we gave them, not the hundreds of thousands the soviets thought about burying kinda sorta in the sand that the Iraqis found...

Cool story though.

And this was why Japan never made plans to invade the Continental US, they knew there was a gun around every bush.

DC has a ban on firearms and they have a 29.1 crime rate per 100,000 people. Texas has a whole lot of guns and a crime rate of 5.9 per 100,000.

If you were a criminal what do you fear the most? The police or the guys house you are breaking into that could have a gun pointed at your head?

And in these killing sprees we see all over TV, the number of people killed is directly proportional to the time it takes for the NEXT gun to arrive. You typically see shoot-em-ups in places where the people are known to be unarmed. Schools, churches, etc.

Thank you 2nd Amendment!

As I see it, neither the number of guns in private ownership, nor the percentage of gun ownership have any relationship to the amount of freedom in a country or the quality of life in a country.

If you look at percentage of gun ownership, you have high quality of life nations, the US, Finland and Switzerland. Then you have low quality of life nations such as Yemen, Iraq and Serbia.

Looking at the total number of guns in each country, there is a slight tendency towards personal freedom in the countries with the most guns: the US, India, Germany and France. On the other hand, there are Pakistan and Russia with nearly as many privately owned guns.

Personally, I put gun ownership along with smoking marijuana, eating bacon cheeseburgers and using WVO. I don't currently do any of those things, but I sure don't want the government to tell me I can't if I decide I want to.

There are all types at shooting ranges. It really isn't a political or religious thing at all.

I think you have a good point Nate.
These figures are for the registered guns.
Here in Australia when they tightened the gun laws, there was a spike in the number of guns "stolen' or "lost".
it is well accepted here that it is far better to face a charge of having an unregistered fire arm than be the victim of a near fatal attack during a home invasion.
at the time of the law change there was a buy back by the government, this was funded by an extra tax. Many took the opportunity to get rid of any junk they had. There were many guns that were sold back to the government that had bent barrels & seized firing pins. They even paid for gun stocks, no mechanism required.
i think the article said that only about 10% of guns are registered in the world. that is very believable.
& for the record, I dont have any unlicensed or unregistered firearms.

Pity what happened in your country.... A wild, free place like Australia should never have had such a policy inacted upon its citizens

And yet there are still millions of people in this country who seriously worry that their guns will be taken away by whoever the current boogey man is. It'll never happen, even if the NRA and the Republican party were to disappear today.

We had one crazy gun man go on a shooting spree. Google Port Arthur for more details.

Interestingly it was a conservative government that was behind the changes.

For the general public;
You may not own a gun of any description without a valid reason.
No hand guns.
No assault rifles or military types. strict limits on the size.
Strict limits on magazine sizes.
Limits on the amount of ammo you may hold.
No pump action shotguns.
Secure gun storage; firing pin & ammo can not be stored with a gun. Both must be kept in separate secure safes & the safes must be secured to the building. An old 2 ton bank safe must be bolted to the floor.
No sleeping with a gun by the bed or having an old shotgun over the fireplace.

There are very few very limited exceptions.
If you are registered to have a gun, you agree to the police being able to enter your home at any time without a warrant to search for guns or what ever.
Only the licensed gun owner can access the gun. Your wife is not allowed to know where the key to the safes are & they cannot be kept in the same place.
& some wonder why guys over your way fight so hard to maintain your rights.
It would be very hard to have a revolution in Australia.

Very ill informed.
Cash payments were made. I got $450 for a shotgun stock & $700 for a 222 that had been in the bottom of a dam for over 20 years.

I am pleased by your desire not to come & visit us.

There are many on the forum who have visited. I have received many positive PM's over time from members about their visits. & many more from members wishing to visit Australia.
At the moment with your dollar having little more value than paper (you know what sort) best you all have a holiday at home & help you countries economy. In time things may change.
The wife has been making rumblings lately that while our dollar is so strong we should take a trip over your way. I still have an ongoing visa & work permit from when I worked in the USA 25 years ago, they issued such things back then. Plenty of old work mates to visit & a few good people on here as well.

Why does Texas with no gun ban have such a high crime rate when Britain, most of Europe and Japan with a gun ban have have relatively little violent crime?
