Over here despite stores having signs saying bag searches are a condition of entry, it is often reported in the media that only a police man can legally undertake such a search unless you give them permission, while a store detective can attempt a 'citizens arrest", equally you have the right to use reasonable force to maintain your freedom ~ they grab you, you knee them hard in the groin & then walk off. They are supposed to just record your license plate & leave it up to those with the authority to deal with it. They have the right to refuse admission to anyone they like. This would be a far better way of dealing with a problem.
