It does sound interesting. But this business of a single leaf per house seems a bit too optimistic. Energy is conserved, i.e. is not created. You'd need sufficient sq. footage of 'leaf' to harness the sheer number of BTUs that are released by the hydrogen/oxygen reaction.
Even so, directly producing two valuable gases w/o going first to electricity and then to cracking the water would have to be a boon.

It might. I like it but sobriety is needed. Kilowatts are kilowatts. The work expended in an average car trip equals a lot of square meter/hours of sunlight. Add in the inefficiencies of conversion and I'm guessing it would take several average house sized roof tops covered with these leaves to power one auto for minimal usage.
When compared to the energy we now use, accumulated over untold eons by organic leaves, anything on a year to year basis is going to look paltry.
